CLASSIFICATION: Staff -12 months

EFFECTIVE DATE: TBD

STANDARD WORK HOURS: 37.5 hours per week

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time

JOB SUMMARY: 

 

The Associate Director of Research, Development, and Partnerships is a full-time grant-funded position that will provide critical support and assistance to the Director of the Center, and the School of Business, with the overarching goal of advancing programming and organizational initiatives.

 

Under the direct supervision of the Director of the Center, the Associate Director will conduct independent research projects and support the Director in advising undergraduate and graduate research projects (including assisting with research design, KSU Institutional Review Board approval process, data collection and interpretation, and presenting/publishing results). Most research will be related to Kentucky and the surrounding region; hence it requires familiarity with the history and geography of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Research topics will include but are not limited to economic education, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, economic development policies and practices, and circular economies.

 

Additional duties include assisting with the development and implementation of educational outreach programs, strategic planning and execution, grant writing, fundraising, communications, marketing, and building partnerships with individuals and institutions throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky and beyond.

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Conduct, present, and publish relevant research related to Kentucky.
  • Assist with advising undergraduate and graduate research projects.
  • Provide leadership in the establishment of research goals for the Center.
  • Assist with strategic planning and execution, data collection, fundraising, and grant writing.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of educational outreach programming.
  • Write communications and marketing materials.
  • Coordinate economic education training/workshops for educators throughout the Commonwealth.
  • Facilitate economic education conferences and other events at KSU.  
  • Build relationships and networks with other institutions interested in economic education and financial literacy.
  • Serve as Center representative on committees, stakeholder groups, and professional associations.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: 

 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Evidence of prior academic and non-academic publications are required to demonstrate familiarity with these research topics within the context of Kentucky.
  • Evidence of administrative leadership and ability to work as a team member.
  • Knowledge of standard approaches to economic education and financial literacy.
  • Knowledge of economic history and geography of Kentucky.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software packages.
  • Skill in editing academic and non-academic publications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with individuals and institutions in diverse communities.
  • Knowledge of strategic planning and execution.
  • Initiative, resourcefulness, punctuality, and the ability to work independently are essential.
  • Valid driver’s license.

 

       SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY  

  • This position does have supervisory responsibility, with graduate assistants in the beginning. Additional positions that would report to the person in this role would be a grant writer, data specialist, and additional research associates.

 

             

OTHER DUTIES: The position will perform other duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. in economics, sociology, geography, anthropology, history, or related field (with emphasis in systematic study of the economy).
  • Experience teaching in academic and non-academic settings is required (five-ten years of experience is preferred).
