Job Description

Primary Function of Position

As a member of the Global Public Affairs team, the Patient Advocacy Specialist, U.S., is accountable for contributing to all facets of the team’s mission to protect and promote the company.

This includes contributing to strategies to advance Intuitive advocacy goals in partnership with patient communities and other stakeholders. You also execute tactics to help projects in alignment with patient advocacy groups. This role will advocate Intuitive’s policy positions to relevant coalitions and trade associations, as well as meet and communicate with external stakeholders.

In addition, you will assess advocacy priorities of key patient advocacy groups and other stakeholders. This includes developing relevant materials including slides, memos, and spreadsheets. This role will also evaluate advocacy groups engaging at the pan-European level.

This position will work closely with the U.S. Government Affairs and Advocacy team and other colleagues in Global Public Affairs, Marketing, Clinical Affairs, and Global Access Value Economics.

Essential Job Duties

This position will help the advancement of the Global Public Affairs team, which includes the following responsibilities:

Policy Advocacy

  • Develop, implement, and execute patient and policy advocacy strategies and tactics.
  • Plan, facilitate, and track engagement with patient advocacy groups and other health care stakeholders.
  • Contribute to communications and engagement plan.
  • Research priorities and policy positions of advocacy groups and other stakeholders.
  • Evaluate state and federal policy issues related to key conditions and diseases.
  • Help patient advocacy Center of Excellence and best practices throughout Intuitive Surgical.
  • Develop and maintain slide presentations and other materials highlighting patient and policy advocacy work.
  • Assess impact of projects through quantitative and qualitative metrics.
  • Conduct landscape assessment of European patient advocacy groups to establish policy positions and advocacy priorities.
  • Participate in Global Public Affairs meetings and cross-functional teams.
  • Engage with patient advocacy groups and other stakeholders at select meetings and events.
  • Contribute to/represent Intuitive at key industry organizations, as required.
  • Attend meetings, events and conferences to represent Intuitive from a Government Affairs perspective.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 2-4 years’ experience in Public Affairs, Political Science or similar field.
  • Relevant political, communications, and/or advocacy experience desired .
  • Ability to travel up to 10-20% within U.S.
  • Ability to effectively assess and summarize policy issues.
  • Excellent organizational skills, especially ability to monitor and manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to work autonomously while also working in coordination with GPA team.
  • Ability to tailor materials to effectively communicate with internal and external audiences.
  • Willing to contribute to projects that fall outside of core responsibilities, as needed.

  • Minimum University degree required
