About the role

Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for metal fabrication, welding, and machining operations to meet high-tolerance requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, quality assurance, and supply chain, to ensure efficient production workflows.
  • Lead process development and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality.
  • Oversee the selection, implementation, and maintenance of equipment and tooling used in metal fabrication and machining operations.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing challenges, including welding defects, machining inconsistencies, and equipment issues, to maintain production schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements for aerospace and defense manufacturing.
  • Perform feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost analyses to support new product introductions and process changes.
  • Train and mentor junior engineers and technicians in advanced manufacturing techniques and best practices.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed process documentation, including work instructions, process flows, and control plans.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to source high-quality materials and components for production.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering with a focus on metal fabrication, welding, and machining in aerospace or defense industries.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and familiarity with CAM software for machining processes.
  • Strong knowledge of welding techniques (e.g., TIG, MIG, and resistance welding) and their applications in high-tolerance environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in machining operations, including CNC programming, tool selection, and fixture design.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, or similar process improvement frameworks.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze and resolve complex manufacturing challenges.
  • Strong understanding of material properties and behaviors, particularly metals used in aerospace and defense applications.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with large-scale, high-tolerance fabrication and machining for aerospace or defense products.
  • Background in Department of Defense (DoD) or government-contracted manufacturing programs.
  • Knowledge of automated welding systems and advanced machining technologies.
  • Certification in Six Sigma, lean manufacturing, or related methodologies.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset for cross-departmental teamwork.
