Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.

Florida State Hospital (FSH) is a mental health treatment facility owned and operated by the State of Florida and is part of the Department of Children and Families. This is a highly responsible and professional position serving as a Pharmacy Technician within Pharmacy Services. Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

 

• By state and federal regulations, assists the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy.
• Responsible for the purchase of medications and pharmacy inventory management.
• Ensures the lowest price for the best quality is paid for medication by consulting with the Pharmacy Assistant Directors.
• Responsible for maintaining adequate daily levels of ready to use stock for all areas of the Pharmacy, including preparation for weekends and holidays.
• Perform inventory to ensure accuracy in issue and receipt stock. Responsible for accurate issues, receipt and level of medication and pharmaceutical supplies.
• Maintain storerooms in a clean and orderly manner.
• Routinely checks storeroom shelves for outdated drugs and rotates stock to prevent outdating.
• Ensures that medications in the pharmacy are stored at the appropriate temperature. Ensures that refrigerators are working properly to prevent loss of supplies.
• Participates in a monitoring program to remove deteriorated pharmaceuticals from the inventory and placed in a quarantine area.
• Participates in a monitoring program to remove and appropriately handle manufacturer drug recalls.
• Initiates purchasing requisitions for drug purchases, pharmacy equipment, replacement parts and repair services, and other pharmacy requisitions.
• Assist the pharmacists in dispensing medication orders for units as prescribed by physicians **Labeling of preparations and prescriptions **The counting, weighing, measuring, and pouring of prescription or stock legend drugs and controlled substances, including the filling of an automated medication system. **While under the direct supervision of the pharmacist, performance of any
