Scientist I, Molecular Pathology and Imaging *PC 1595
Miltenyi BiotecAbout the role
Your Role:
As a member of the Research and Development team, you will have the opportunity to play a key, hands-on role within the functional area of ultra-high content imaging using the novel CliniMACS MACSima™, a fully automated instrument based on multiplex fluorescence microscopy. You will be responsible for tissue preparation, developing, optimizing and validating tissue staining procedures using immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry (IHC), and in-situ hybridization (ISH) methods. Furthermore, you will perform high-content image acquisition and analysis of tissues derived from human and animal tumors using MACS® iQView platform for multi-parameter analysis of imaging data at the resolution of a single cell. This work will provide mechanistic insights into discoveries in the field of cancer immunotherapy. The incumbent will have the opportunity to interact with a highly diverse and collaborative team of scientists focused on the research and development of novel cell and gene therapies, to contribute to scientific publications and development of commercial cell therapy products, and to grow professionally.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for animal and human tissue processing and staining for research and development projects. Work collaboratively with team members to achieve high quality of assay performance.
- Embed, section and stain fresh-frozen and fixed tissue specimens.
- Run optimization studies for staining reagents/methods.
- Perform low-content and high-content imaging of cells/tissues by optical and fluorescence microscopy.
- Independently perform image processing, interpretation, and laboratory data management.
- Work independently and in a team environment.
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Ph.D. degree in pathology, cancer biology, immunology, imaging, or a related field; A minimum of two years of relevant experience
- Skills in molecular pathology, including tissue processing, staining, and microscopy.
- Expertise in fresh and fixed tissue specimen preparation, including fresh tissue fixation, paraffin embedding, sectioning, mounting slides, and pre-staining slide processing.
- Experience in H&E and other standard histopathology staining, IHC, ISH and IF on fresh frozen and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue.
- Experience in image analysis using commercial or open-source image processing suites.
- Experience in isolation and culture of primary cells, multicolor flow cytometry and cell-based assays is a plus.
- Experience in high-content data analysis, machine learning (large language models), and automation of data workflows is also a plus, with an aim to understand the tumor microenvironment is also desirable.
