About the role

Job Summary

The Associate Director of Grants and New Initiatives is accountable for the overall grants/contract arm for the Business Development team. The position is responsible for: project funder prospecting, proposal development, grant procurement, and grant cycle management. Responsibilities include the preparation and submission of proposals for grants and contracts and overseeing compliance with requirements of those grants and contracts; the development of new funding opportunities and maintenance of current sources; conducting periodic audits of state/federal grants/contracts; management and assessment of grant-related data with a view toward enhancing program performance.  This is a supervisory level position. Candidates will offer grants and contracting experience in a healthcare setting; master’s degree in public health or a related field preferred

This position oversees and performs full life-cycle project management from proposal development/work plan creation to final execution, ensuring that clearly defined project goals, schedules, and budgets are met.  The AD-G&NI will interact closely with multiple stakeholders, including state/local health departments, vendor partners, association partners, and APIC staff. The position has high visibility and significant interaction with current and prospective clients. 

The AD-G&NI shall be an organized professional, problem solver, self-directed, and demonstrate leadership and initiative, while being a team player. The position requires political savvy, a keen understanding of IPC project funding sources, funder and funding challenges, current opportunities, environmental conditions, and industry trends. The position requires strong leadership and project management skills.

Development – Prospecting & Proposal Development:

  • Partner with senior staff to set funding priorities; identify and pursue program-related funding opportunities from government entities, state/local health departments, foundations, and other institutional sources. 
  • Research, identify, and explore new funding opportunities. 
  • Expand relationships through prospecting, networking, and external communications.
  • Prepare and submit written proposals for grants and contracts. 
  • Initiate and maintain positive working relationships with external entities that may influence funding opportunities. 
  • Actively pursue grant opportunities with state and local departments of health, the federal government, private industry, and others to create projects, acquire grants, and take on new business for APIC that aligns with its mission.
  • Create a detailed work plan which identifies and sequences the activities needed to successfully complete projects.
  • Ensure grant projects are executed to the highest standards. 
  • Grow and manage current, previous, and prospective client relationships utilizing innovative and varied networking techniques.
  • Research new funding and business development opportunities and trends with state and local departments of health, the federal government, public health nonprofits, and prospective healthcare clients.
  • Lead targeted outreach efforts to new and previous IPC project funders with support from the Marketing team.
  • Build and nurture relationships with potential clients and funding source decision makers.
  • Oversee the master calendar of RFP submissions and application requirements, and track submission statuses. 
  • Maintain the internal library of grant and RFP support documentation and standard proposal language.
  • Summarize grant applications and RFPs for internal staff members and lead the evaluation of such opportunities.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to coordinate assignments and deadlines for proposal content development.
  • Draft proposal and grant application narratives, statements of work, and budgets; and coordinate final review with APIC leadership as requested prior to submission.
