We are hiring for a Mechanical Design Engineer that will be focused within Electrical Integration within our main cabin seating team. This person in this role will work to achieve day-to-day objectives with moderate impact on their work area. The candidate will be responsible for designing major components or major portions of functional systems, technically advanced prototypes, and promotional or specific products using computer design and engineering systems. Developing or improving products and facilitates manufacturing operations. Developing data and makes layouts, sketches, and notes for design proposals. Investigate pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost. Designs, develops and tests metallic or non-metallic structures or materials and their related fabrication processes for use in engineering designs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Integrate electrical components and wiring into design while meeting vendor and OEM requirements.

  • Liaises between electrical integration team, electrical certification, design engineering, vendors and project teams.

  • Prepares work statements for electrical integration team.

  • Directs the work of outsource resources assigned on projects in electrical integration areas.

  • Verify system configuration and block diagrams.

  • Prepare, modify and release drawings created in CAD (NX) to verify fit, form and function of mechanical and electrical designs.

  • Design brackets and fixations for electrical components and wiring.  Verify structural acceptability of designs by testing prototypes for reliability and FAA certification through static and dynamic crash testing.

  • Evaluate materials and parts for use in new designs including communicating with current and new suppliers.

  • Operate in a team environment with other functional areas providing input to design solutions and participate in design reviews.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field or in absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in the design of mechanical systems for commercial aircraft seating products

  • Experience in design using Siemens NX or other 3D CAD software

  • Experience working with Teamcenter or other Product Data Management (PDM) tools

  • Experience integrating electrical components (routing, harnesses, and mechanical installations)

  • Experience working with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles

  • Familiarity with FAA requirements
