JOB SUMMARY:

Under minimal supervision, this position manages all underwriting and underwriting station revenue for IRSC Public Media.  Duties include: creating monthly and annual projections; identifying prospective clients; preparing and delivering sales presentations to prospects; writing copy and recording spots as needed; building long-term associations; and providing a high quality of customer service.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prospects for potential clients or agencies; evaluates; and provides sales information via in person and online appointments and networks with various organizations including businesses, non-profits, government agencies, and private individuals to increase revenue and meet measurable goals.
  • Writes and edits copy for approval while adhering to Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules; records spots as needed.
  • Completes agreements and enters into underwriting software for airplay.
  • Follows up with clients to determine satisfaction.
  • Identifies opportunities to increase revenue via on-air, streaming, website, and other non-traditional revenue.
  • Supervises the creation of sales materials like rate cards, media kits, and proposals.
  • Participates in station promotional activities.
  • Maintains the stations’ lists of clients and assists in their assignment to other Underwriting Account Executives in a manner approved by the General Manager and creates monthly and annual projections for underwriting revenue for IRSC Public Media. 
  • Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree; five (5) years of related sales experience dealing with decision-making executives and focusing on goal-oriented sales with increasing revenue; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license.
    • Knowledge of non-commercial radio underwriting requirements and public, non-commercial or commercial broadcast sales or non-profit fundraising preferred.
  • Knowledge of media rating tools.
  • Skill in developing and delivering presentations.
  • Skill in organizing, managing time, and prioritizing.
  • Skill in delivering customer service.
  • Skill in working with Microsoft Office and Windows based applications including databases.
  • Ability to be accurate and detailed oriented, be creative, be discrete, be a self-starter, be results-oriented, meet deadlines, multi-task, and work independently as well as with others.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as sedentary work involving lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, you must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities. If someone can do light work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary work, unless there are additional limiting factors such as loss of fine dexterity or inability to sit for long periods of time.
