A Day in the Life

The preferred working location for this role is the Medtronic facility located in Mounds View, Minnesota; however, the individual may also work remotely within the US or onsite at another US-based Medtronic facility.

In this individual contributor role, you will serve as the Systems Engineering and Validation Lead for the Medtronic Product DNA enterprise program. This role is responsible for the design, development, user validation and implementation of a complex PLM (including PDM Capabilities) across the enterprise and its integration with other systems (ex: SAP). Product DNA is a transformative initiative across the Medtronic enterprise, aimed at simplifying the creation, management, and utilization of product data. Guided by its north star vision, Product DNA seeks to establish a foundational, connected digital thread of product information. This program will modernize outdated technology and infrastructure by streamlining systems across the organization and implementing best-in-class practices and procedures. The resulting change will affect all groups, functions, and regions within Medtronic. As a multi-year, multi-phase program, Product DNA is ultimately dedicated to improving patients' lives.

  • Champion Product DNA, engaging and exciting the end user community. 
  • Lead the development and implementation of systems engineering best practices, working closely with other Workstream Leads to ensure seamless integration of these practices across the program.
  • Partner with users across Operating Units, Global Operations & Supply Chain, and global functional teams to translate PLM and PDM user needs into clear business and functional requirements, ensuring solutions address both technical and user-centric outcomes with a focus on standardization, simplification, and ease of use.
  • Develop an understanding of the design of current and future state system and workflows.
  • Lead the upfront validation of requirements to reduce the risk of late design changes.
  • Conduct technical reviews to evaluate design quality, assess technical risks, and strategize the delivery of software and system solutions for business readiness.
  • Facilitate comprehensive requirements gathering and develop validation plans end to end including PLM integration to ERP, and other external systems.
  • Apply robust systems engineering principles to transform user needs and stories, as well as current state process flows, into Windchill scenarios, and further decompose them into individual requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership in planning and executing Voice of Customer (VOC) and design workshops and conduct gap analyses to ensure all requirements are captured, accurately documented, and fully accepted by users.
  • Monitor scope inter-dependencies across various workstreams to ensure alignment and cohesion.
  • Lead or collaborate with teams to structure issues, conduct analyses, evaluate options, and develop recommendations on critical process and system-related questions.
