The Role at a Glance
We are seeking a technically strong and collaborative actuary to join the Life Valuation team as AVP & Actuary, Valuation. This role leads the production of quarterly reserve reporting for the ISL block of business, including GAAP (LDTI), STAT (pre-PBR and PBR), and TAX. You will be responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and well-controlled reporting processes. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of our financial results, supporting audit and regulatory reviews, and delivering clear, actionable insights to senior leadership.
What you'll be doing
•Valuation Leadership: Lead quarterly valuation processes for the ISL block, ensuring accurate reserve calculations under GAAP (LDTI), STAT (including PBR), and TAX frameworks.
•Reserve Analysis: Analyze and explain reserve movements, trends, and drivers across product lines, including SOP 03-1 reserves for GUL products.
•Reporting & Controls: Maintain and enhance robust actuarial reporting processes with strong documentation, governance, and audit readiness.
•Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate results and insights to senior finance and business leaders, translating technical findings into business-relevant narratives.
•Regulatory Awareness: Monitor and interpret regulatory developments (e.g., LDTI, PBR, NAIC guidance) and assess their impact on valuation practices.
•Collaboration: Partner with Modeling, Finance, Risk, and other teams to ensure consistency and transparency in financial reporting.
•Process Improvement: Identify and implement automation and efficiency opportunities to streamline valuation workflows and reduce manual effort.
•Talent Development: Provide mentorship and coaching to actuarial staff, supporting professional growth and technical development.
•Compliance: Ensure adherence to actuarial standards of practice, internal controls, and regulatory requirements, including support for internal and external audits.
What we’re looking for
•Bachelor's degree (or equivalent)
•10+ years of actuarial experience, focused on Life Insurance Valuation and Financial Reporting
•Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA)
•Deep understanding of GAAP (LDTI), STAT (including PBR), and TAX reporting requirements
•Proven leadership experience managing valuation processes and developing actuarial talent
•Strong communication skills and ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences
•Demonstrated success in identifying and implementing process improvements
•Experience supporting audits, regulatory reviews, and cross-functional initiatives
•Strong project management skills and ability to meet deadlines
•Adaptability in a dynamic environment
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with data management tools preferred
