  • Available to work full time, 40 hours a week, usually 8:00 am – 5:00pm.
  • Physical ability to work in various weather conditions and perform manual labor as needed.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds regularly.
  • Physical movement to include kneeling, squatting, bending, lifting and standing.
Job Description: The Environmental Soil Chemistry Lab at the University of Florida is seeking a full-time Lab Assistant (OPS) to support ongoing research in soil chemistry and environmental science.   The following list is not all-inclusive, nor does it cover the full extent of duties to be performed:
  • Conduct routine and specialized soil chemical analyses.
  • Prepare soil samples (e.g., weighing soils, extracting, aliquoting) and chemical reagents.
  • Maintain clean, organized laboratory spaces and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Support general lab operations (inventory, equipment upkeep).
  • Assist with preliminary data checks, basic analysis, and data organization.

Initial training will be provided. Prior lab experience and familiarity with basic data analysis are advantageous.

Expected Salary:

$17-$21/hour, commensurate with experience

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong chemistry background with hands-on laboratory experience.
  • Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools (e.g., spreadsheets or statistical software) is a plus.
Preferred:

 

  • Familiarity with data collection tools and software (Excel, etc.).
  • Lab experience.
  • Previous experience in soil chemistry and environmental science preferred.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with the research team.
