Be at the forefront of change and become part of the innovative and forward-thinking academic team at the University of Michigan-Flint's Public Health & Health Sciences Department in the rapidly expanding College of Health Sciences! We are seeking applications for a 12-month Clinical Assistant Professor that will serve as the Program Director of the Bachelor of Science Respiratory Therapy Program. This hybrid position is 70% instructional and 30% administrative and requires a regular presence on campus. Currently, faculty in the College of Health Sciences are required to report to campus minimally two days per week. The desired start date for this position is Winter 2026.

The Respiratory Therapy Program Director at the University of Michigan-Flint is responsible for the leadership, administration, and management of the University's Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy (BSRT) program. The Director ensures the program's quality, compliance with accreditation standards, curriculum development, and the professional growth of faculty and students. The Program Director plays a key role in maintaining academic excellence, promoting student success, and ensuring the program aligns with the latest industry standards and healthcare trends.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Program Director

• Program Leadership
  • Provide vision and leadership to the Respiratory Therapy program, ensuring it meets the strategic goals of the University and healthcare industry standards
  • Oversee curriculum development and ensure that courses reflect current practices, technologies, and trends in respiratory care
  • Lead program accreditation efforts, including preparation of accreditation reports and ensuring compliance with the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) or other accrediting bodies
• Academic and Curriculum Oversight
  • Develop, review, and update curriculum to maintain rigorous academic standards and alignment with licensure requirements and CoARC standards
  • Ensure capstone projects align with program objectives by collaborating closely with healthcare partners to provide students with high-quality, real-world learning experiences
  • Foster student-centered learning by incorporating innovative teaching methods and technologies
• Faculty Supervision and Development
  • Recruit, mentor, and evaluate lecturers in collaboration with the Public Health & Health Sciences Department Director
  • Encourage professional development of faculty through continuing education, research, and participation in professional organizations
  • Ensure lecturers adhere to the program's standards and deliver high-quality education
• Student Success and Advisement
  • Develop and implement student recruitment plan
  • Promote student retention, graduation, and licensure success by providing academic and career advising
  • Oversee student engagement efforts for both current and prospective students with a focus on recruitment initiatives
  • Facilitate student engagement and involvement in professional respiratory therapy organizations
  • Facilitate and lead the student honor society (Lambda Beta) by providing mentorship, guidance, and oversight
  • Support and mentor students in capstone development, implementation, and successful completion of capstone projects
• Program Assessment and Continuous Improvement
  • Conduct ongoing program assessment and quality improvement initiatives to ensure educational outcomes, including CoARC standards, are being met
  • Analyze student performance data and feedback to enhance program effectiveness and curriculum development
  • Maintain current knowledge about changes in licensure requirements, healthcare regulations, and industry practices
• Administrative Duties
  • Develop and implement strategic recruitment and marketing initiatives to promote the academic program, which includes attending recruitment events
  • Coordinate course offerings in collaboration with the Department Director
  • Acquire and maintain articulation agreements with area community colleges, which includes negotiating terms, aligning curricula, and
