The Environmental Specialist serves as an essential core team member of the Environmental team. The role supports the systems and processes established for the continuity and growth of the business through the support of MPLX’s environmental strategy, metrics, reporting, and governance. The Environmental Specialist works closely with the environmental, sustainability, operations and maintenance departments to prepare and submit greenhouse gas (GHG), emissions inventory and Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) reports. This role will support the collection, review, and entry of data into the Asset and Compliance Tracking System (ACTS) as needed. The role may also support other environmental and sustainability initiatives and reporting efforts related to emissions detection technologies, methane reduction initiatives, and methane certifications/commitments.
Responsibilities:
Gather & Analyze Environmental Data
Works with internal environmental, operations, maintenance, and other functional teams to gather and analyze environmental data and records for completeness and accuracy.
Analyzes trends, evaluates information, and monitors the impact of new and ongoing projects on GHG emissions.
Provides support for the implementation and maintenance of the environmental software system, ACTS.
Calculates emissions using software programs including ACTS, GRI-GLYCalc, E&P Tanks, AspenTech HYSYS, ProMax, and Excel.
Reviews and analyzes data related to MPC’s methane reduction and certification initiatives.
Recordkeeping & Reporting
Prepares and submits timely and accurate air emissions calculations and reports required for state emissions inventory programs and greenhouse gas reporting under 40 CFR Part 98 Subparts W, NN and C.
Prepares and submits timely and accurate release calculations required for Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) reporting.
Provide support with data requests from local, state, and federal agency inspections, as well as internal information requests.
Interprets environmental regulations and guidance and applies that knowledge to environmental recordkeeping and reporting efforts.
As needed, enter gathered data into ACTS and other software systems of record.
Other Duties
Supports other sustainability initiatives, such as ESG reporting for SASB/GRI/TCFD/IPIECA, as needed.
Supports G&Ps Focus on Methane program tracking and reporting initiatives.
Communicates environmental compliance requirements to MPLX personnel.
Assists in responding to GHG assurance/auditing data requests and questions.
Assists Sustainability and Environmental teams with special projects as needed.

Knowledge of midstream oil and gas equipment, operations, and sustainability considerations.
Experience with air emissions calculations.
Knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulatory standards and compliance practices as they relate to air emissions; knowledge of EPA Federal Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program and State (PA, OH, WV, NM, TX, OK, WY, UT, ND, CO & MT) Emissions Inventory preferred.
Knowledge of Toxic Release Inventory reporting is preferred.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required with 5 years of relevant environmental experien
