POSITION SUMMARY 

Sony Corporation of America currently has an opening for Staff Applied Research Engineer in our U.S. Research Center located in Culver City, CA. This position is responsible for leading technical efforts on developing multi-camera human capturing hardware/software system and producing photo-real 3D content together with algorithm research teams, for Sony’s future business and services. Responsibilities include not only driving technical requirements of a novel camera system but also a close collaboration with research scientist teams to analyze and validate complex algorithms of 3D reconstruction, modeling and visualization efficiently. Finally, you will be responsible for invention disclosures, working with patent attorneys to secure intellectual property. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Technical Lead in 1) hardware/software architecture and prototype delivery of multi-camera human capturing system and 2) production of advanced photo-real 3D content by operating Sony proprietary R&D capture systems. 

  • Document all phases of research and development. 

  • Oversee submission of intellectual property. 

  • Travel to visit project counterparts and university collaborators. 

QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION 

Your qualifications and experience should include:  

  • M.S. Degree in Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering or related scientific field, is required. Ph.D. is highly preferred. 

  • 5+ years of hands on engineering experience, preferably in Computer Vision (multi-view 3D reconstruction, video processing), and Computer Graphics (3D modeling, 3D animation). 

  • Familiarity to photo-real CG content creation workflow in Game, Film or other entertainment industry. 

  • Programming skills in C/C++, Matlab, Python are desired. 

  • Excellent communication skills are required. 

  • Research work and publications in related areas are highly preferred.

  • Familiarity with Unity, Unreal Engine, Maya, or related CG platforms is preferred. 

  • All candidates must be authorized to work in the USA.
