Project Overview:

UPF is a multi-year, multi-billion-dollar project and will be the first of its kind complex for enriched uranium operations in support of Y-12 missions. UPF is one of the Department of Energy’s largest investments in Tennessee since the Manhattan Project and one of the Nation Nuclear Security Administration’s largest construction projects. When complete, UPF will replace the 70-year-old facility with modern buildings, reduce operational costs and energy consumption, improve worker safety, and provide enriched uranium capabilities well into the future.

 

Job Summary:

Essential duties include performing pipe stress analysis of systems in accordance with ASME B31.3 Code. The stress work includes the modeling of the piping systems to verify piping flexibility, stability, and qualification of equipment nozzle loads. Work closely with layout personnel and pipe support engineers to deliver a quality and cost-effective design. Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and vendors as required. #LI-SNH

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Monitors and checks work for compliance with approved PD&P design standards to provide quality design, reliable/safe plant operation and construction economy​. Ensures PD&P systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards. 
  • Performing pipe stress analysis of systems in accordance with ASME B31.3 Code.
  • Participates in constructability reviews​. 
  • Plans, develops, coordinates, and reviews design work within a small-size PD&P design work group on projects of medium size or assignments in support of global business unit​. 
  • Coordinates and interfaces as directed with the day-to-day technical work of PD&P engineers, scientists, specialists, designers, and drafters​. 
  • Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management​. 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Level 1: Requires bachelor's degree in engineering (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience. 
  • Level 2: Requires bachelor's degree in engineering (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Basic qualifications of ASME B31.3 and/or B31.1 other relevant industry piping codes and standards. Prior experience using a computer pipe stress analysis program. 
  • Able to navigate through the 3D model using software such as Smart Plant 3D and Smart Plant Reviewer or similar. 
  • Able to use Microsoft Office suite of software for creating calculations.
  • Proficient in Auto Pipe Software.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • PE Registration.
  • Previous Bechtel project experience.
  • Previous DOD/DOE project experience.
  • Considered skilled and proficient in discipline​.
  • Professional with an understanding of area of specialization, resolves a wide range of issues.
