Background

Since 1976, St. Joseph Center has been meeting the needs of low-income and homeless individuals and families in Venice, Santa Monica, Mar Vista, and surrounding communities.  The Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community organization that assists people without regard for religious affiliation or lack thereof through comprehensive case management and integrated social service programs.  The Center enjoys broad-based community support as well as a sponsored relationship with its founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.  St. Joseph Center serves approximately 6,000 individuals annually.

Brief Description of Principal Activities

Multifaceted intervention, prevention, and education services are carried out at four sites on the Westside of Los Angeles.  St. Joseph Center’s integrated programs provide clients with concentrated and coordinated access to services according to the nature of their needs.

Job Description

The Director of Operations works as a team member responsible for the oversight and execution of operational systems for all agency facilities, and providing administrative services to the Operations Department while adhering to the mission of St. Joseph Center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Operations key areas of responsibility include: 

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Supervise facilities and front desk personnel
  • Daily operation of all facilities and the agency vehicle fleet
  • Direct and coordinate all maintenance, vehicle, equipment inventory, distribution, and procurement activities
  • Enforce St. Joseph Center policies and procedures

Essential Duties:

  • Facilities maintenance and upkeep (work order, pickups, deliveries, room set-ups, etc.)
  • Agency fleet management (maintenance, insurance, repairs, operation, parking matters, paperwork, etc.)
  • Procurement (specialty vendors, parking, furniture, phone and security systems, signage, etc.)
  • Coordination of agency-wide information and technology systems
  • Maintain professional working relationships with partnering entities
  • Restructure and oversee supply ordering process
  • Execute evacuation plan for administrative office
  • Collaborate with IT consultant on operational improvement of the intranet portal
  • Review operational invoices and forward for final approval

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be highly motivated and a self-starter. 
  • Must be able to communicate with and relate to a diverse group of people including clients, community, and other staff. 
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.     
  • Must possess strong written verbal and communication skills.
  • Must have problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Must have the ability to exercise sound professional judgment.

Experience:

  • Previous office experience in a fast-paced environment is required.

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Direct Reports:

  • This position supervises Facilities and front desk personnel. 

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and widely supported internet browsers.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:

  • Valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
  • Valid automobile liability insurance.

Travel Requirements:

  • The Director of Operations will travel between agency facilities.
