Applies knowledge of engineering principles to design products such as automated industrial systems and equipment, engines, instruments, controls, robots, machines, mechanisms, pressure vessels, process piping systems, gloveboxes etc. Required to be proficient working with 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks, preparing hand calculations, thermal, stress and structural analyses using FEA tool ANSYS or equivalent. Performing kinematic and kinetic analyses using multibody dynamics simulation software such as Adams Hexagon a strong plus. Required to prepare or oversee the preparation of designs for manufacture (DFM).
Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected determine methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise. Determines critical methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate activities of other personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities may include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Develop designs based on customer and regulatory requirements. Following systems engineering principles must be able to decompose requirements into tangible, manufacturable designs and verify and validate (V&V) the designs are compliant with those requirements
- Develop designs for manufacture (DFM).
- Create 3D models, and design and shop drawings using SolidWorks 3D modeling SW.
- Working knowledge and ability to apply Geometric, Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to designs.
- Perform kinematic, stress, structural and thermal analyses on systems and equipment used in the Government and Commercial nuclear markets by preparing, reviewing and checking hand calculations, Finite Element Analyses (FEA) using ANSYS.
- Ability to perform kinematic and kinetic analyses using multibody dynamic simulation software such Adams by Hexagon a strong plus.
- Researches and analyzes data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
- Designs products or systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines, and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, or heat transfer systems.
- May plan and direct other engineers in fabrication of equipment, and development of methods and procedures for testing products or systems. Interface closely with systems and design engineering, manufacturing and testing and able to develop manufacturable designs.
- Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
- Coordinates operation, maintenance, and repair activities to obtain optimum utilization of machines and equipment.
- Designs products and systems to interface machines, hardware, and software.
- Perform work utilizing principles of systems engineering per INCOSE, DOD 5000 or ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288
