Overall Position Summary and Objectives
Provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute on Aging. The primary objective is to provide services and deliverables through performance of support services.
Deliverables:
- Work products and documents related to assessing participant’s physiologic condition; assist physicians during examinations and procedures; provide cardiac monitoring; assess, record and report patient reactions to drugs; report study adverse reactions; perform testing/procedures per study protocol requirements. - Ad-Hoc
- Work products and documents related to inserting and maintaining peripheral access intravenous (IV) lines; perform phlebotomy; follow established policies, procedures and regulatory guidelines for proper disposal of biohazard and chemical wastes. - Ad-Hoc
- Work products and documents related to implementing Quality Control measures; manage evacuations; manage the security of the premises; respond to security issues and breaches. - Ad-Hoc
- Work products and documents related to obtaining informed consent; inform staff regarding progress of protocols and functions of clinical unit; provide daily report; serve as receptor of new personnel. - Ad-Hoc
- Work products and documents related to entering data into medical report, case report forms and computer systems; attend patient rounds and meetings; provide participant education; perform action plan in response to emergency situations or illnesses. - Ad-Hoc

Work Details:

Reviews standard nursing procedures and documents areas in need of improvement. - 1
- Incorporate research protocol requirements into the delivery of care for participants in support of the research efforts. - 2
- Reviews patient and patient family feedback and provides summary reporting for further review. - 3
- Manage testing to ensure that projects and protocol responsibilities are completed within timelines given the availability and allocation of resources related to clinical trials. - 4
- Communicate with researchers to determine needs as per protocol. - 5
- Performs assessments and collects medical histories and physicals.

Perform collection, maintenance and analysis of data, entering and tracking patient data.

Assess participant’s physiologic condition upon admission, and monitor throughout visit and upon discharge.

Assess, record and report patient reactions to drugs; report study drug adverse reactions to staff.

Schedule testing and clinic appointments; initiate medical records; make admission room reservations.

Assess patient through follow-up by phone, written correspondence or email.

Plan, implement, evaluate and document care provided, per protocol requirements and good clinical practice standards.

Enter clinical and research data into medical records, case report forms and/or computer systems.

Perform and assist physicians performing basic physical examination
