About the role

Position Summary

San Diego State University is seeking a Field Operations Lead/Parking Lead to coordinate parking and traffic related functions and ensure the smooth, day-to-day operations of Transportation Services. Reporting to the Associate Director, this position plays a key role in leading enforcement representatives, student assistants, and operational activities that support the safety and efficiency of campus parking services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Training: Provide lead work, direction, and daily oversight for a team of Parking Enforcement Representatives and 12-15 student assistants. Conduct training, update manuals, and provide lead work and team assignments to ensure operational objects are met. 
  • Field Operations: Patrol campus on foot or by vehicle to enforce parking rules and regulations. Serve as a shift lead, respond to service calls, and maintain a visible presence across campus.
  • Student Field Assistant Program: Assist with the administration, training, and direction of student participants, ensuring program effectiveness and professional development opportunities.
  • Special Events Coordination: Lead and coordinate parking operations for special events, collaborating with campus personnel and external partners as needed.
  • Equipment & Inventory Management: Maintain and manage operational equipment and inventory to support daily activities and special event operations.
  • Administrative Support: Provide documentation, reporting, and operational updates to the Associate Director; contribute to the continuous improvement of department workflows.
  • Flexibility & Availability: Work a variety of shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, extended hours, and emergency callouts tied to special events or emergency campus needs.

Position Information

  • Full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
  • Position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Working hours are Monday through Friday, 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and may vary based on operational needs. This schedule will begin after a 3-month training period, during which the hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 
  • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

Transportation Services provides comprehensive mobility services and transportation planning for the SDSU community. We employ a diverse team of professionals who coordinate and deliver parking, transit, micro mobility, car sharing, vanpooling, and other transportation needs. Our staff provide information and customer service to our campus community for permits, citation appeals, and fleet vehicle driving certification. Transportation Services manages many vendor contracts to deliver services efficiently, affordably, and professionally. TS Parking Representatives are responsible for the enforcement of parking rules and regulations on campus, in addition to providing parking and traffic support for numerous events.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent; possession of a California Driver’s License; and 3 years of related experience
