Port Quality Manager, Los Angeles

Port Quality Assurance Manager - Americas Region, reports to the Manager of Port Quality Assurance and is part of Technical Support under the Americas Technical Support organization.
Purpose
On site Quality Manager to address all quality issues that arise in the port of entry
What You'll Do
- Report quality trends, emerging issues via TIE system
- Manage all Factory initiated Port Actions (PAM)
- Provide sales company initiatives with support via Port Action Request
- Support Port Installed Accessory program
- Ensure vehicle maintenance is performer as required while vehicles are stored in POE
- Manage vehicle repairs (Body and Mechanical)
Responsibilities
- Ensure rapid reporting and resolution of issues affecting product or process quality
- Ensures vehicles from POE (Port of Entry) are repaired, upgraded, and accessorized within designated lead-times
- Effectively Manage the Port Installed Accessory Process, including system setup, verification of port instructions, training of port personnel, and follow-up on audit results
- Cross-functionally work with Sales planning and Outbound Logistics for current and future POE requirements to support wholesale and company objectives
- Cross-functionally work with Accessories for current and future POE requirements to support the company’s accessory objectives
- Cross-functionally work with necessary groups for current and future POE and processing facility requirements to support company objectives
- Coordination with Sales Planning and Outbound Logistics to ensure Quality goals and Wholesale goals are aligned
- Ensure correct handling of products in the Port of Entry (POE) and processing facility, including leading the port personnel by example, supporting Volvo’s core values
- Ensure vehicles being released from the processing facility meet Volvo standards and guidelines
- Continually manage offline vehicles
- Provide the processors and transit carriers with technical support / expertise
- Ensure rapid reporting and resolution of issues affecting product or process quality by providing feedback regarding vehicle / pipeline issues via Technical Information Exchange (TIE)
- Work closely with the Volvo factory teams and the local Engineering teams for proper quality follow-up
- Perform Port Quality and Port Process Audits
- Support all Market Required Activities (MRA), Port Action Mails (PAM) and Port Action Request (PAR)
- Ensure vehicles from the VPC (Vehicle Processing Center) are repaired, upgraded, and accessorized within designated lead-times
Authority
- Authority to block cars in the distribution flow that do not meet Volvo specifications
- Authority to launch all necessary port actions and activities to ensure Volvo specifications are fulfilled
Access, usage and development of all relevant systems i.e., DSA, QW90, TIE, VBOX, VIDA, Microsoft Office products and computer hardware - Authority to classify damaged cars and block cars that do not meet Volvo specifications
Competence Requirements
- Demonstrate leadership skills, acquired through 5 or more years in leadership positions on cross functional teams
- Extensive knowledge in Quality systems and processes
- Technical knowledge which is normally acquired through a degree from a technical college or at least 5 years as a service technician or service manager
- Knowledge of Volvo Repair methods and tools a plus
- Thorough knowledge of automotive manufacturing and wholesale operations which is generally acquired through a minimum of 5 years working with the Volvo product or similar
- Basic knowledge of proper body and paint repair procedures
- Basic knowledge of warranty policy and procedures
- Ability to display a good understanding of the organization’s mission, goals, and strategies
- Ability to anticipate and prepare for changing priorities or unexpected situation
- Ability to make quick, proper decisions even under difficult situations and meet stringent deadlines
