Network Manager, Inpatient Wound & Ostomy

The Network Manager, Inpatient Wound & Ostomy is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the network inpatient wound and ostomy team. Has oversight of patient care, productivity, quality, performance improvement initiatives, patient experience/satisfaction, staff and provider education, and personnel management

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Leads the network in the development, implementation, and evaluation of processes that result in optimum care and clinical outcomes for patients with altered skin integrity. Establishes standards of care, competencies, policies, and procedures for inpatient wound care network wide

• Educates nursing staff & providers on wound care best practices. Leads initiatives to train clinical staff and providers to effectively assess wounds, recommend appropriate protocols, and initiate plans of care. Shares expertise to hospital committees and workgroups regarding best practice standards on wound, ostomy, and continence care

• Provides direct care to patients with disorders of the integumentary system including wounds, ostomies, and continence disorders and pressure ulcers. Collaborates with providers, nurses, ancillary personnel, and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure patient’s wound care needs are being met.

• Responds to consults for patients with a wound (all etiologies)

• In consultation with the physician, assists the primary nurse in developing an appropriate plan of care for comprehensive wound management. Makes recommendations to the physician for changes to wound care orders and provides evidence-based research to support as needed

• Reviews charts of patients with wounds. Ensures that wound assessments, care plans, and treatments are clearly and correctly documented and that appropriate wound related treatments are being provided

• Investigates all inpatient cases with adverse events related to wounds. Implements performance improvement initiatives when appropriate

• Evaluates wound care products and makes recommendations for use within all network hospitals. Educates clinical staff on products (in-service staff). Ensures all recommendations are cost-effective and clinically appropriate

• Educates patients and families on wound care

• Responsible for operational oversight of the Ostomy Clinic

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to sit for up to 2 hours per day; 1 hour at a time, stand for up to 8 hours per day; 4 hours at a time, and walk 6 hours per day; 50 minutes at a time. Have ability to lift, carry and push objects with a weight of up to 75 lbs., and transport patients weighing up to 400 lbs. via wheelchair, bed and/or stretcher with assistance when appropriate. Must be able to pull up to 10 lbs., and frequently pull up to 250 lbs. with assistance when appropriate. Must be able to stoop, bend, crouch, kneel, climb, crawl and reach above shoulder level. Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch and be able to firmly grasp, twist and turn objects with hands and fingers. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal sound at high and low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relates to color, peripheral vision, accurate depth perception, and visual monotony (e.g. computer screen)

EDUCATION:

Registered Nurse with current license to practice in the state of Pennsylvania. Upon hire, candidate is required to apply for New Jersey license within first three months of accepting the position. BSN, CWON and BLS all required. VAC therapy skills/assessment mandatory.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of five (5) years of licensed professional nursing experience. Previous experience providing inpatient wound care preferred.
