Job Description Summary:

Modernizing Medicine is seeking an experienced and dynamic Manager 2, Software Engineering to lead and mentor a team of talented software engineers in the design, development, and delivery of innovative healthcare technology solutions. This role requires a strong technical background, proven leadership abilities, and a passion for building high-quality, scalable software that impacts patient care.

What you'll do

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 6-10 software engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.

  • Drive the technical design, development, and implementation of complex software features and products, ensuring adherence to architectural standards and best practices.

  • Collaborate closely with product management, UX/UI, and other engineering teams to define requirements, prioritize tasks, and deliver solutions that meet business needs.

  • Oversee the entire software development lifecycle, including planning, estimation, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance.

  • Conduct regular code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, maintainable code.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance team efficiency, productivity, and software quality.

  • Manage individual performance, provide regular feedback, conduct performance reviews, and support career development for team members.

  • Participate in strategic planning and contribute to the overall technical roadmap for the engineering organization.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, providing guidance and support to the team.

  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating their potential impact and applicability to Modernizing Medicine's products.


What you'll bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • 8+ years of experience in software development, with a strong background in object-oriented programming languages (e.g., C#, Java, Python) and web technologies.

  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership or management role, directly managing software engineers.

  • Proven experience with agile software development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban).

  • Strong understanding of software architecture principles, design patterns, and scalable system design.

  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and microservices architecture.

  • Proficiency with relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to inspire, motivate, and develop a high-performing engineering team.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical challenges.

  • Experience in the healthcare technology domain is a plus.
