Job Description Summary

The VA Clinical Liaison & Business Development Coordinator serves as the primary on-the-ground representative of MUSC Health's VA & Corrections ICCE in the Columbia, SC market. This remote, Columbia-based role is responsible for growing appointment volume and service utilization at the William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center (Dorn VAMC) through clinical navigation, provider relationship development, and strategic engagement with VA and MUSC Midlands Division leadership.
This is a hybrid clinical-operations role requiring the credibility of a clinical background combined with the skills of a business development professional. The ideal candidate is a self-directed, relationship-driven leader who can operate independently while maintaining close alignment with the ICCE.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Volume Growth (Job responsibility 35%)

  • Identify service gaps and unmet referral needs at Dorn VAMC across specialty and subspecialty care
  • Develop and execute a referral growth strategy in alignment with ICCE priorities
  • Build and maintain relationships with Dorn VA referring providers, service chiefs, and administrative leaders
  • Track and report on referral pipeline, appointment volume, and new service line opportunities
  • Represent MUSC Health in VA leadership meetings, community of care forums, and partner engagement events

 

Clinical Navigation & Care Coordination (Job responsibility 30%)

  • Facilitate referrals from Dorn VAMC to MUSC Health specialists, navigating scheduling, access, and authorization barriers
  • Serve as a clinical resource and point of contact for VA care team members coordinating care at MUSC
  • Assist with patient navigation as needed to ensure continuity between the VA and MUSC Health
  • Support compliance with VA community care referral requirements including HSRM and TriWest processes

 

Liaison & Stakeholder Engagement (Job responsibility 25%)

  • Serve as the face of MUSC Health's ICCE in the Columbia market — professional, credible, and relationship-focused
  • Engage regularly with MUSC Midlands Division leadership to align on shared priorities and opportunities
  • Communicate proactively with the ICCE on market dynamics, partner needs, and growth opportunities
  • Represent MUSC at applicable VA and community health events in the Columbia region

 

Reporting & Operations (Job responsibility 10%)

  • Maintain accurate tracking of referral and appointment data using designated systems
  • Provide regular status updates and performance reporting to the System Administrative Officer
  • Participate in weekly touchpoints with ICCE leadership and contribute to strategic planning
  • Support contract and workflow documentation as needed

 

Qualifications

Required

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina (or compact state eligibility)
  • Minimum 3-5 years of clinical experience, in an academic medical center, federal health system, or VA setting
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage professional relationships with senior clinical and administrative leaders
  • Strong communication, presentation, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment with minimal supervision
  • Must reside in the Columbia, SC area
  • Prior experience working with or within the VA health system

 

Preferred

  • Familiarity with VA community care referral processes (HSRM, TriWest, VA Mission Act)
  • Experience in business development, care navigation, or provider relations
  • Existing relationships with Dorn VAMC clinical or administrative staff
  • Understanding of academic health system operations
