About the role

The Tulane University Center for Cellular and Molecular Diagnostics is seeking a research technician III. This is a full-time position that will involve sample preparation, routine cell culture, mass spectrometry operation, data reporting, routine instrument and lab maintenance, supply ordering, and making general lab chemicals. Facility instruments include a mixture of LCMS/MS instruments.

  • A thorough understanding of how Mass Spectrometry works, basic chemistry, and biology

  • Routine cell culture, protein extraction

  • A thorough understanding of the quantitative criteria involved in selecting analytical methods (e.g., precision, accuracy/bias, sensitivity, detection and quantification limits, and dynamic range) and their corresponding figures of merit

  • Demonstrated knowledge of LC-MS/MS 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of mass spectral libraries 

  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Good mathematical skills and experience performing calculations in Excel


REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
 

  • Bachelor’s degree 

  • 1 year of basic laboratory research experience.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
 

  • Familiarity and prior experience running Mass Spectrometry instruments will be viewed favorably.
