Role Purpose
This is a unique opportunity for a mechanical/process engineer in the area of advanced optical materials and products. The position requires a self-motivated individual with a strong mechanical background and ability and interest in engaging in production and development processes to oversee and assist in the development and manufacture of low volume, high precision glass optics. The successful candidate must have a professional work ethic, strong hands-on design and mechanical skills, and a desire to work in a small team environment.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Provide process engineering oversight, for equipment design and manufacturing operations for the purpose of improving both existing and development processes.
- Provide glass forming process leadership focused on process understanding, process improvement, new technology and/or new product lines, including making decisions on project priorities and direction.
- Support developing and executing strategy
- Help set and achieve project budget goals
- Work closely with operators and technicians to understand and develop more robust & repeatable forming manufacturing processes.
- Implement recommendations for cost, process, and yield improvement for various glass forming processes
- Develop Experimental Plans/Reports as required to support process improvement and product development.
- Track development parts and samples through their process flow, working across layout, finishing, and metrology functions
- Troubleshoot quality issues to determine root cause and implement solutions.
- Work with Trades and other mechanical support groups to submit and track work orders
- Adherence to all safety procedures.
- We anticipate <10% travel for this role at times depending on the program. May involve international travel.
Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field (Engineering or Physical Sciences). Master’s Degree a plus.
- 7+ years of Ceramic, Materials, Chemical, Mechanical, or similar engineering experience, including internships and research assistant roles
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge and familiarity of drafting software
