About the Program

The NAM Leadership Consortium (LC) Collaboration for a Learning Health System provides a trusted neutral venue for national leaders in health, health care, and biomedical science to work collaboratively toward their common commitment to a health system that rewards effectiveness, efficiency, equity, and continuous learning. Leadership Consortium is comprised of the following portfolios:

• Evidence Generation to support the conditions necessary for transforming information from real-world health and healthcare experiences into reliable evidence to guide improvements in health care and population health.

• Digital Health to foster improvements and innovation in the digital health and data infrastructure supporting care connectivity, informed decision-making, and evidence development for improved population and patient-level health.

• Value Incentives and Systems to support financial systems and incentive structures that reward the whole person and whole population health and health care.

• Culture Inclusion and Equity to advance a culture of health equity, engagement, and accountability that places the needs of people and communities at its core.

About the Position

The Part-time, temporary Research Associate (RA) will be responsible for drafting and developing numerous background documents that will assist the team in gaining a better understanding of issues and trends impacting the portfolios. Under the guidance of senior staff, the research associate will assist in the preparation of data for use in summaries, fact sheets, and reports. In addition, the RA will assist with some administrative duties related to programs/projects such as scheduling calls with external stakeholders and taking notes.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter of keen intelligence who has passion about the NAM’s vision and mission; a proactive, forward-looking thinker, who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions; will have the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of complex situations, with exceptional writing and organizational skills; and will have the ability to effectively balance multiple priorities.

Job Description:

Essential Job Duties:

1. Research: Performs research and analysis, analyzing and organizing technical data and reports and compiling summaries of information. Develops information sources. Reads, analyzes, and evaluates data and literature. Prepares preliminary outlines of projects to determine appropriate methodology. Synthesizes data for specific sections of the report or other types of output. Prepares and formats various survey instruments and databases to accept specified information.

2. Writing: Writes technical papers or summaries. Abstracts information from scientific studies to create tables for committee review or use in committee reports. Drafts, summarizes, and edits findings and provides feedback to appropriate parties. Analyzes data developed and prepares written interpretations.

3. Project Support: Researches and organizes information about external stakeholders, speakers, and members. Corresponds with committee members, participating in the planning and execution of committee meetings, and other tasks associated with preparing for committee meetings and workshops. Assists in the scheduling of meetings, calls, workshops, and in taking notes. Attends and participates in meetings and workshops.

4. Communication: Responds to inquiries from the public sector, sponsors, and other scientific peers outside of the National Academies. Increases public awareness of programmatic activities. May identify and contact professional and advocacy groups interested in the program’s work.

5. Database Management: Manages database to track references. Manages and maintains bibliographic databases. May assist in maintaining email and distribution lists.
