The Corporate Tax Associate is responsible for performing analysis and research in support of corporate tax reporting and planning projects. This developmental role will be exposed to a wide variety of domestic and international US tax matters ranging from the development and use of tax/financial models to facilitate multi-variable scenario planning, quantitative analysis to determine relevant tax attribute or inclusion amounts for reporting and planning purposes and research in support of conclusions.
The role will rotate within the corporate tax department working directly with Directors, Sr. Managers and Managers in the Tax Group with the objective of building a strong and diverse base of tax knowledge upon which a specialization can be built. Through this program, the role will also gain exposure to the company's financial, operational and strategic objectives and begin to develop and understanding of the international power market. Each associate will be paired with a mentor to develop and implement a professional development plan with fulsome on the job training, support, and formal training instruction opportunities. At the conclusion of a two year rotational period, each associate will join either the Domestic or International Tax Group as a Senior Associate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare tax analysis in support of business transactions and quarterly reporting requirements. Perform research and document positions.
- Actively support tax reporting requirements, including preparatory work in support of tax compliance, controversy, transfer pricing and tax accounting. Understand and support the achievement of KPIs that seek to improve performance and efficiency.
- Develop an understanding of the evolving tax law environment globally and begin to follow specific areas of tax policy.
- Proactively manage workload, anticipate impediments and communicate status of deliverables
- Perform quantitative analysis to determine tax attributes, develop models that automate and allow for toggle-based assumption inputs, document methodology and process.
- Build and apply a base of technical tax knowledge that facilitate the optimization and accurate forecasting of AES' tax posture.
- Ensure timely accurate and complete tax reporting results.
- Build a base of new technical tax knowledge and the flexibility to adapt to evolving regulations.
- Develop technical knowledge related to tax and related attributes. Deliver timely and accurate data analytical products through strong financial modeling capability.
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with financial statements, public company filing obligations and accounting concepts.
- An understanding of global financial markets and commerce.
- Must have an interest in tax law and policy and its application to a dynamic multinational firm.
- Self-motivated with good time management skills. Anticipatory and curious mindset, willingness to challenge assumptions.
- Critical thinking skillset able to consider multi-variable analysis. Comfort managing multiple work streams and competing priorities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
