About the role

The Medical Assistant will perform administrative and clinical duties under direction which may include scheduling appointment, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding for insurance purposes, taking, and recording vital signs and medical histories of patients, preparing patients for examinations, and drawing blood.  Patients may include students, faculty, and staff.

Primary Responsibilities:

1.       Provide prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill or injured students, faculty or staff as directed by a physician, advanced practitioner, or registered nurse. 

2.       Interview patients to determine medical complaint/problem/condition and document in the patient’s chart for the physician or other authorized medical personnel.

3.       Obtain and record patient’s vital signs and weight.

4.       Conduct drug/alcohol testing through various approved means of collection and adhere to required protocol with regard to samples.

5.       Administer hearing/vision tests EKG’s and Pulmonary Function Tests (PFT)

6.       Assist physician or other practitioner with patient examinations as needed. Administer specified medication as directed.

7.       Provide support to the operations of the health & wellness center by maintaining medical equipment, keeping exam rooms properly supplied, cleaning and sterilizing instruments, disposing of contaminated supplies, cleaned and ready for patients, as well as maintaining office inventory and purchasing supplies as necessary. Collaborate with Office Manager in ordering supplies.

8.       Interact with patients and other physician offices to assist with follow up, scheduling, questions, etc.

9.       Perform Medical Records functions such as filing and maintaining patient records, copies record for medical and legal releases, obtaining records and purging records to storage.

10.    Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times, and strictly adhere to HIPAA requirements.

11.    Remain current in knowledge of field.

Other duties as assigned.

Experience/Education:

·         High school diploma and completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program; certification is preferred.

·         Clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in an ambulatory care, occupational health or emergency department setting.

·         Current certification in basic life support required.

·         Must be willing to submit to, and successfully pass, fingerprinting, TB exams, etc. as necessary.

Must successfully pass a background check.

• Retain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.

You may be subject to termination if you fall below the minimum requirements.

Pay rate: Minimum Wage
