Junior UI / UX Designer

Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is seeking an entry-level UI/UX designer to join our team in Bentonville, Arkansas. The ideal candidate should be passionate about iterative UI/UX design and testing, pursuing practical solutions to complex problems to aid in real-world government and military operations. This position requires the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, structure and organize files efficiently, and provide team members with value-added designs and feedback. The successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary team of professionals developing software to solve critical problems of national importance.

What you’ll do as a Junior UI/UX Designer:

• Gather and evaluate user requirements in collaboration with product managers and developers
• Illustrate design ideas using storyboards, process flows and sitemaps
• Design graphic user interface elements, like menus, tabs and widgets
• Develop UI mockups and prototypes that clearly illustrate how sites function and look like
• Create original graphic designs (e.g. images, sketches and tables)
• Prepare and present rough drafts to internal teams and key stakeholders
• Identify and troubleshoot UX problems
• Conduct layout adjustments based on user feedback
• Adhere to style standards on fonts, colors and images

Required qualifications:

• Willingness to relocate to Bentonville, Arkansas
• US citizen with the ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance
• Bachelor’s degree with 0-2 years’ experience or high school diploma with 6-8 years’ experience
• Portfolio of design projects showcasing your expertise in desktop and mobile applications (submit via email to kprimo@ara.com)
• Knowledge of wireframe tools and design software
• Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills
• Proven attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated high degree of organization and ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment

Preferred qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in design or a related field
• UI/UX design certification
