General Purpose of the Job
Develops functional activities related to the arts for individuals within the adult day services and assists program staff in carrying out those activities. While developing, implementing and overseeing activities, is responsible for the managerial duties associated with those activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, plan, integrate and implement activities which provide enhanced learning experiences for the program participants.
- Must obtain and maintain knowledge of program participant’s interests, skills and functional levels in order to plan appropriate activities.
- Must work collaboratively with staff in planning activities including assisting with special events related to the activities.
- Provides program staff with hands on activity training on an ongoing basis.
- Develops and oversees various activity groups for participants.
- Organizes and oversees special events related to the arts for program participants.
- Conducts staff meetings and various in-services on as needed basis.
- Assures that program participants have adequate supplies.
- Reports any safety or cleanliness issues to insure a safe, clean, accessible and pleasant environment in all program areas.
- As needed, assumes managerial duties associated with stated responsibilities in assuring the day-to-day program operations in accordance with stated and federal regulations as well as program’s and agency’s policy and procedures.
- Provide documentation of participant involvement with related activities to be included in program reports.
- To comply with all training requirements for working with individuals under OPWDD guidelines.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervision of Habilitation Specialists, Independent Living Specialists, Program Aides and Assistants.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in a related human service area or permanent certification from the NYS Department of Education. Three years of work experience with developmentally disabled population preferred.
Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working basic computer skills including email and word documents.
