As Director, Contract Strategy you'll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients' lives.  North American Commercial is the 'face' of AstraZeneca to our many healthcare clients. They represent many of the most well recognized and respected products in the industry and build strong relationships with healthcare professionals. 

Lead expert for the contracting strategies for Channel, Payer customer segments; leading the development of specific segment focused strategies, engaging with key internal and external stakeholders to strengthen partnerships, ensures alignment with overall business strategies and delivers both customized and scalable offerings and programs that are built around the segment specific needs.  Accountable for leading contract strategy resources across AstraZeneca’s US Pharm Business.  

Leads in the development and approval process for traditional and Innovative Value Strategies, as well as supports contract negotiations partnering with Customer Facing account roles, including Distribution Channel, National and Regional accounts.  Facilitates the development of trade channel and contract strategies that align with Brand Team / Therapeutic Area business strategies for launch and in-line products.  Works closely with the Therapeutic Area Leadership teams to deliver contract strategies and offerings with financial justification based on ROI and sound business judgment and assist in assessing the performance of existing contract strategies & offerings.  Responsible for ensuring the timely and regular re-evaluation of current strategies. 
 

Typical Accountabilities 

  • Leads the implementation of contract strategies and contracting platforms for the US Pharma Business 

  • Leads the coordination with a team of associate directors/managers/specialists in operational activities such as rebates, chargebacks, government reporting, contract writing and process approvals. 

  • Monitors environment and practices for shifts in trends or behaviors, interpret likely impact and suggest appropriate actions. 

  • Develops deep understanding of competitive market conditions that affect pricing for individual brands, therapeutic areas and overall industry. 

  • Evaluates changing marketplace and proactively make recommendations on pricing strategies as related to managed care, reimbursement environment, federal and state regulations. 

  • Lead resource for Licensing and Business Development in assessing price for potential opportunities related to US Pharma Business. 

  • Works with Customer Experience Director to prioritize programs for development drawing on his/her knowledge of the needs across the evolving market access customer segments. 

Essential Skills/Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree; preferably in a relevant field (Marketing, Science, Economics or Finance) 

  • 5+ years of Pharmaceutical or related healthcare business 

  • Experience in pharmaceutical sales and/or healthcare industry  

  • Understanding of Market Access and Healthcare delivery as it relates to the US Pharmaceutical industry 

  • Analytical skills including problem solving, forecasting, contract development and financial modelling
