About the Role

The Software Engineer III role involves designing, developing, and testing software applications for space systems and technologies. This advanced position requires expertise in at least one programming language, an advanced understanding of software development principles, and the ability to design and architect complex software systems. The role includes writing clean, maintainable code, collaborating with team members to understand project requirements, and contributing to the development of innovative software solutions. Additionally, this position involves mentoring and guiding other engineers, providing technical leadership and support.

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and Kubernetes deployments such as the Big Bang framework. This role spans both on-premises and cloud environments, with particular emphasis on air-gapped operations. The ideal candidate will design and maintain infrastructure using secure IaC tools like Terraform or Ansible, implement comprehensive observability solutions for proactive monitoring, and seamlessly integrate security practices throughout the development lifecycle. You must have strong expertise in container technologies, GitOps workflows, infrastructure as code, software development workflows, and security tooling. You should be comfortable collaborating with development teams to optimize processes and ensure high-quality, reproducible software delivery that meets stringent compliance requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree or master's +3 yrs experience).

  • Typically, 5+ years of related experience.

  • Expertise in one to multiple programming languages and advanced understanding of software development principles.

  • Ability to design and architect complex software systems.

  • Experience with different software development methodologies such as Agile and Scrum/Kanban.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to mentor and guide other engineers.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance is required.

  • Willingness and ability to obtain Security Plus or IAT2 certification is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Security Plus or IAT2 certification

  • Proven experience as a DevOps/DevSecOps Engineer

  • Proficient in one or more scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash)

  • Experience designing CI/CD pipelines (preferably using GitHub or GitLab)

  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or Ansible

  • Proficiency with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes

  • Experience with Windows and Linux software development

  • Ability to identify bottlenecks in software development and create solutions to increase efficiency

  • Strong understanding of security and software development best practices and principles

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Google Professional DevOps Engineer)

  • Experience with additional DevSecOps tools and methodologies.
