The Embedded Systems, Sensing System Software team develops the first layers of environmental sensing software on multiple generations and platforms of Cruise Autonomous Vehicles. Senior Staff Software Engineers are unique technical experts, responsible for shaping strategic initiatives at Cruise. As Cruise’s business continues to scale rapidly, building a stable, reliable, scalable, flexible, and cost-efficient foundation and long-term architecture is critical. This role will specifically work on the multi-sensor systems, future program engagement, and strategic collaboration with our partner teams across Cruise and external partners of the Embedded Systems team.
What you'll be doing:
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to set strategy for next-generation state of the art environmental sensing software based on market trend research, data collection, and hardware validation. You'll own the delivery of the product development to mass production manufacturing of Autonomous Vehicles and fleet operations.
- Working with internal and external partners to define the system-level architecture for the implementation of our future generations of Autonomous Vehicle environmental sensing
- Owning the development quality and ensuring the solutions are scalable, secure, and optimized for customer experience and performance. Raising the bar on engineering excellence by producing best-in-class code, documentation, testing, and monitoring.
- Owning technical projects from start to finish and being responsible for major technical decisions and tradeoffs. Effectively participating in team planning, code reviews, and design discussions.
- Mentoring others and being a role model for the team
What you must have:
- Proven experience writing production-quality software
- Proficiency with C++11 or later
- Experience driving complex Embedded Software projects through the full lifecycle of product development
- Experience architecting and delivering Embedded Systems solutions that support multiple generations of the product
- Experience engaging in communication at senior management levels and influencing technical strategies
- Experience applying and mentoring team members on software development best practices
Bonus points!
- Experience with safety-critical development (FDA, FAA, Automotive)
- Experience with different types of sensors and environmental sensing systems
- Experience developing on and for Embedded Linux / POSIX systems
- Experience with ROS or other robotics middleware platforms
- Experience with other languages: C, Python, Bash, Go
- Experience with embedded build systems, such as buildroot or Yocto
- Experience with QNX, VxWorks, or similar
The salary range for this position is $194,200 - 285,500. Compensation will vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. You may also be offered a bonus, restricted stock units, and benefits. These ranges are subject to change.
