Senior Scientist Bioinformatician
ZoetisAbout the role
Senior Scientist Bioinformatician
Zoetis is a global animal health company dedicated to nurturing our world and humankind by advancing care for animals. We strive to create an atmosphere where colleagues feel valued and supported, can give their best every day, and are proud of the company where they work. Building on 70+ years of experience, our scientists help pets live longer, healthier lives, and support healthier, more productive livestock. We are committed to discovering and developing solutions that span a continuum of care to predict, prevent, detect, and treat diseases in animals while championing a more sustainable future and creating a healthier world for all.
Zoetis is offering a great opportunity for an experienced bioinformatician to be part of multi-disciplinary team working to enrich the development of Zoetis’ portfolio. This role will work with diverse models and biological systems, applying bioinformatics algorithms and state-of-the-art ML/AI technologies to help understand disease state This role will be instrumental in helping teams across the organization to design studies as well as analyze/integrate multi-omics data and interpret complex data sets. The role will also keep up to-date with the latest developments in next generation technologies, applications of sequencing techniques, statistical methodologies, advances in analyses and incorporation of large and diverse data for delivering health solutions. Key applications involve identification of disease targets, disease progression, drug safety, immune responses and overall animal health.
The successful candidate must have a strong background in biology and relevant experience in analysis of biological systems using a variety of existing data science approaches to evaluate genomic and multi-omics data in addition to the development of new and innovative approaches. The candidate should have experience in next generation sequencing (NGS) analysis, data interpretation, integration of “omics” data (GWAS, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics etc.) and implementation of new approaches to understand biological systems. An ideal candidate would work within this systems biology framework and be effective at communicating biological principles, machine learning algorithm approaches, and statistics to dynamic, multidisciplinary teams. S/he should also be comfortable generating a variety of visualizations of the underlying data and the analytic results that convey insights in a manner that is comprehendible to project teams.
Education and Position Responsibilities:
Candidates with Ph.D. in Cell biology, Molecular biology, Microbiology, Virology, Biochemistry, Genomics, Bioinformatics, or other related fields are preferred.
The candidate should have experience with:
- Processing, analyzing, and interpreting large multi-omics datasets including integrating DNA, RNA and protein data using multi-’omic approaches (DNA-Seq, RNA-Seq, Proteomics, Single cell, etc.).
- Demonstrating the ability to successfully draw conclusions based on data integration of more than one ‘omics methods.
- Applying computational, statistical and visualization methods to generate actionable biological insights from various ‘omics data derived from animal/human and pathogen sources using a systems biology approach.
- Building pathway analysis workflows and developing robust frameworks to understand disease biology.
- Collaborating with various stakeholders to help design experiments and provide experimental strategies and methodologies to validate hypothesis.
- Showing proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g Python, BASH, C, C++, R, Ruby)
- Demonstrating conceptional knowledge in GWAS, microbiomes, metagenomics, single-cell genomics, variant detection (SNPs) and/or CNV analysis.
- Displaying excellent verbal, written and communication skills while working with experimental biologists, clinicians, and non-biologist stakeholders.
