Purpose

The Outsourced Resources Team Lead is responsible for coordinating and processing shipments of materials being sent to third parties for cataloging.  The position also supervises, hires, and trains student and hourly workers that support the department’s efforts to describe foreign language materials. This position is a part of the Content Management unit within UT Libraries, reports to the head of outsourced and strategic resources.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, hires, and trains student employees and hourly workers to assist with cataloging outsourcing processes, such as shipment preparation and descriptive metadata processing. Track and manage student and hourly worker budget.

  • Coordinates operations for outsourced cataloging through a combination of delegation and individual hands-on work. Collaborates closely with the head of outsourced and strategic resources in setting team benchmarks and objectives and creating and implementing policies and procedures related to the prioritization, coordination, processing, and shipment of foreign language materials being cataloged by third parties.

  • Creates and/or enhances descriptive metadata using standard formats, such as MODS and/or other non-MARC schemas, for one-time and continuing resources materials submitted to the UT digital repository.

  • Participates in department meetings. Serves on committees, task forces, and working groups related to departmental responsibilities. Attends training initiatives as directed by supervisor or head of content management.

  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduation or GED. Four years of library work experience or transferrable work experience including administrative, clerical, or customer service with increasing levels of responsibility.

  • Familiarity working and organizing library materials or resources in a variety of formats and languages.

  • Familiarity with managing, recruiting and training employees

  • Experience working with an integrated library system/library service platform.

  • Excellent attention to detail and high degree of accuracy in performing tasks.

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, manage workflows, and problem solve.

  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.

  • Experience adapting to changing environments and priorities.

  • Strong communication skills with a focus on customer service.

  • Ability to foster positive working relationships and contribute to a positive, productive, and welcoming workplace.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Experience working in an academic library in an acquisitions, serials, or technical services environment.

  • Experience with Alma library services platform.

  • Experience developing workflows for sorting, shifting, and packing/unpacking physical materials

  • Knowledge of current standard cataloging practices and guidelines, such as RDA, AACR2, LCSH, LC Authorities, and PCC.

  • Familiarity working with MARC records and OCLC cataloging tools.

  • Knowledge of Library of Congress classification scheme.

  • Strong organizational skills demonstrated by previous work experience.

  • Experience helping to solve complex problems.
