Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Assistant Director of Research Development and Special Projects - Boca Raton, FL.

The Assistant Director of Research Development and Special Projects contributes to the growth of the university’s research enterprise, in particular the goal of attaining very high research activity Carnegie status. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Research Development and Special Projects in the Office of Research Development, Division of Research.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Research potential strategic collaborations, both within and external to FAU, learn faculty interests, and match FAU researchers with needed expertise for projects.

  • Manage collection and dissemination of funding opportunities to the university community, conducting key searches when needed; primary lead for GrantForward.

  • Oversee dissemination of limited submission opportunities within the university, manage limited submission internal applications, and convene review panels.

  • Lead event planning for research-related networking and proposal enhancement programs, creating event timelines, scheduling and implementing events.

  • For competitive internal research programs, develop guidelines, oversee application submissions, convene review panels, and assist with implementation.

  • Develop and deliver research-related workshops and trainings.

  • Facilitate new faculty onboarding events.

  • Manage proposal preparation for large multi-unit proposals, assigning tasks to team members, gathering proposal documents, assisting with merging and editing text, and generating text as needed.

  • Lead preparation of institutional (Division of Research) proposals, identifying opportunities, generating content, and administering proposal preparation and submission to the Office of Sponsored Programs for final review and submission to sponsor.

  • Serve as grant manager for awards under DoR units, assist with implementation of grant activities, and comply with reporting requirements.

  • Edit grant proposals, enhancing organization, clarity, logic, use of evidence, and ensuring content match with funding opportunity guidelines.

  • Responsible for university boilerplates, generating text or editing as needed, reaching out to university departments/units to regularly update.

  • Direct and facilitate the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs’ functions and activities, inclusive of cultivating in-depth knowledge of postdoctoral-related regulations, fostering communication/collaboration between the office and university units that interface with postdocs, and supporting postdoctoral research development.

  • Assist with directing office operations, reviewing and providing suggestions for office policies; manage tracking of office activities according to outcome, and assisting with generating reports as needed; ensure that office Canvas site is user-friendly and up-to-date.

  • Supervise direct reports within the office, inclusive of assigning duties, monitoring performance, and providing feedback.

  • Other job-related duties as assigned.
