Spartech LLC headquartered in Maryland Heights, Missouri is a leading manufacturing organization in the Custom Sheet & Roll Stock and Packaging markets with over a dozen locations throughout the United States. We have a broad customer base with extensive product offerings and technologies. Many of our materials are used in products you might see every day - for example, if you start your morning with a single serve yogurt, the container you ate from may be made from one of Spartech's products or the refrigerator where the yogurt was stored could have Spartech products in its interior features. More unique uses of our products can be seen in military or security applications, for example in fighter jet canopies or bullet resistant windows. The Corporate Director of Environmental, Health and Safety will direct EHS affairs for the corporation and report to the CEO. This position is responsible for the on-going improvements to corporate-wide EHS programs, improving workplace safety and health, minimizing environmental risk, and fostering a culture of EHS excellence throughout the organization.
Requirements
Essential Job Duties
- Direct the Corporate EHS and Worker’s Compensation activities, which are designed to assist Spartech divisions and facilities to implement and maintain an effective EHS management system.
- Direct the Spartech EHS Management System at Spartech facilities worldwide
- Develop applicable EHS initiatives and programs to ensure compliance with specific federal, state and local regulations and Spartech standards.
- Provide direct guidance and communication with senior management and plant leadership regarding EHS and WC status and initiatives.
- Manage the EHS budget
- Analyze EHS program activities and efforts to determine applicability, successes, necessary improvements, and compliance
- Prepare EHS reports and presentations for senior management regarding environmental program status and their impact on the corporate.
- Prepare various governmental reports and ensure accuracy of information.
- Establish and maintain a Company health and safety management system that reflects established values and priorities.
- Establish annual EHS targets and goals for the organization with input from corporate executives and business unit VP’s. Establish and administer corporate EHS recognition and incentive program to acknowledge and promote safety excellence throughout the organization
- Develop metrics to report EHS performance to key stakeholders on a regular basis. Maintain external communication programs for positive relations with public officials, community news media, and customers.
- Exercise leadership coordination and communication role with regional EHS staff, all operating divisions and their H&S coordinators to seek innovative input and effectively implement the Company’s policies, procedures and overall safety management program
- Provide consultation to all levels of the organization for identifying improvement areas, maintaining compliance and establishing target objectives for continuous improvements
- Audit the organization’s health and safety management systems for compliance and improvement opportunities. Communicate audit results for implementation of corrective actions ad perform routine follow-up
- Coordinate and communicate with executive staff and business unit leadership to maintain focus and visibility of the Company’s EHS program. Promote employee involvement at all levels of the organization.

Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene, safety sciences, or equivalent (Masters degree a plus)
- Minimum ten years experience and/or training in environmental, health and safety in production environment, preferably in business similar to Spartech’s
- Professional registration or certification in an EHS discipline is preferable (CSP, CIH, CHMM, etc.)
- Minimum two years supervisory and project leadership experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Expert regulatory knowledge in EHS areas and management systems
- Ability to effectively apply knowledge to appropriate, workable solutions congruent with regulations and standards, and Company objectives
