The BI Developer Lead plays a crucial role within the centralized Analytics and Business Intelligence department, bridging the gap between technical expertise and strategic leadership. These individuals leverage their deep understanding of data warehousing, cloud-based analytics (Azure), and the capabilities of Power BI and DAX to guide a team of BI Developers in fulfilling complex analytical requests across the health system. The Lead BI Developer ensures the efficient and effective delivery of actionable insights that drive organizational performance and decision-making. This includes overseeing the development and implementation of advanced BI solutions, fostering collaboration between technical and business stakeholders, and mentoring team members in their professional growth.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Manage a portfolio of BI projects associated with onboarding BI team members.
  • Onboard new BI Developers from the technical perspective (development environment overview, available data models and associated tools, development best practices, etc.).
  • Provide ongoing technical training, support, and mentorship to BI Developers to enhance their competencies and build their expertise in the analytics and business intelligence space.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code with focus on reliability embedded in development standards to support data processes.
  • Engage with Application Analysts and Clinical Informatics Analysts during design and build stages to align content development with operational workflows and validate requirements that define success as part of the implementation within the integrated data platform
  • Engage with Data Analytics Engineers to profile existing data models and develop recommendations for improvement that foster scalability and sustainability.
  • Conduct code reviews to provide guidance on engineering best practices and compliance with development procedures.
  • Lead specific BI projects, manage timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder communication.
  • Communication of upgrade documentation release notes and high-level impact on the analytical environment.
  • Create, analyze, modify, configure, and distribute content using information technologies to support clinical and operational processes and organizational initiatives in the integrated data platform.
  • Perform all steps of product development stages when designing new data models (requirements collection, research, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and configuration) that meet health system development standards based on assigned domains.
  • Responsible for integrity of the outputs including validation of the data in analytical solutions, systems, and data domains.
  • Monitor the performance of existing analytical solutions and take corrective action to optimize or improve their performance for assigned domains and associated data models.
  • Detect data discrepancies and data quality issues and work with other content development members and subject matter experts to ensure data consistency and integrity within systems, data models, and applications.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of how data analysis contributes to overall business goals.
  • Understand workflows, data collection methods, and reporting solutions to present advantages/disadvantages of analytical options available to the customer.
  • Translate analytical business requirements within request and design solutions that meet the needs of the customers.
  • Work closely with analytics and business intelligence managers to identify, recommend, develop/modify and support data and business intelligence strategies resulting from system changes, upgrades, implementations, etc.
  • Review tasks critically and ensure they are appropriately prioritized and sized for incremental delivery.
