Are you interested in being an Employee Owner at one of Boston's Best Places to Work? If this sounds like you, then we’d love to hear from you!

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic principal level scientist with expertise in computer vision, machine learning, and image processing to lead cutting-edge intelligent systems R&D applied to real-world challenges.

Example projects you would work on include:

  • Real-time mission-level autonomy systems for air, ground, sea, and space vehicles
  • Vision-based human pose tracking and gesture/action recognition for collaborative robotic platforms
  • Detecting emerging medical conditions based on data collected from cellphones/cameras
  • Neurological state assessment using novel multi-modal physiological sensing algorithms
  • Classifying signals in vibrating machinery from 1D vibrometry data
  • Use of innovative AI/ML techniques applied to EO/IR and acoustics data to detect and classify ocean mammal activity in areas of interest

At Charles River Analytics, you will develop and apply concepts crossing multiple fields including computer vision, machine learning, signal processing, and state estimation. You will work in tightly-knit, project-oriented teams as a Principal Investigator with other scientists and engineers to create prototypes of new research concepts that can be further developed into deployable products. You will have the opportunity to design and execute your own R&D programs, where you will pursue your own technical interests by building a portfolio of new work. You will also have the opportunity to attend conferences, have your work published, and lead efforts to deploy state-of-the-art technology into the field.

How will you make an impact?

  • Design new methods or apply existing methods from the literature to solve challenging problems across a range of sensing and perception-based applications in the applied robotics and physiological systems domains
  • Formulate novel concepts including new research thrusts underpinning product roadmaps
  • Guide prototype development while engaging with end-user communities and industry/academic partners to mature the company’s technology for field deployment
  • Lead division-wide initiatives to regularly assess the state-of-the-art in CV/ML across industry/academia
  • Ensure that the company remains an industry pioneer in CV-based technologies through establishing/maintaining standards of excellence/best practices, driving the development of common components/tools/infrastructure, and identifying strategic opportunities for developing differentiators within the competitive landscape
  • Coach/mentor CV scientists/engineers
  • Present your work to customers, collaborators, and the research community through papers, reports, demonstrations
  • Generate proposals for new projects

What do you need?

  • B.A./B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or related area. Masters or Ph.D. in a technical discipline preferred.
  • 10+ years in classical computer vision techniques, machine learning methods and tools including deep learning, associated frameworks such as PyTorch/Caffe/TensorFlow, signal processing (e.g., EO/IR, sonar, radar, lidar, acoustic, LDV, etc.), or related.
  • Experience with robotic/autonomous systems
  • Experience directly interacting with customers and/or users
  • Experience running programs as a principal investigator, generating new business
  • Experience translating user needs and system features into actionable requirements for engineering teams to implement technical solutions
