Mental Health Cooperative, Inc. (MHC) was formed in 1993 to serve individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.  Since then, we have expanded our services to children and adolescents with severe emotional disorders across Middle and East Tennessee.

Our sole purpose is to support and treat those challenged with serious mental illness and poverty. Although based out of Nashville, we serve several communities across middle and East Tennessee with satellite offices in Antioch, Gallatin, Dickson, Columbia, Cleveland, Murfreesboro, Clarksville, Cookeville, Chattanooga, and Memphis.

JOB SUMMARY: The Director, Substance Use Services oversees the daily operations of the Substance Use Services program ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to patients. This position requires managing administrative functions, supervising clinical, and support staff, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. The role includes strategic planning, resource management, and fostering a collaborative environment to meet organizational goals and community needs. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Assist the Medical Director and VP, Clinical Services & Quality in operating a clinically and fiscally sound program. 

  • Provide leadership and supervision to the SUD team to ensure outcomes are met and promote overall health. 

  • Oversee SUD grants and required tracking and reporting. 

  • Ensure program protocols/policies and procedures are carried out. 

  • Develop plan with VP, Business Development to educate community referral sources of services offered at SUD and referral criteria. 

  • Develop a network of strong referral sources necessary to meet services census growth goals. 

  • Closely monitor discharge rates and make necessary adjustments as clinically appropriate to address problematic discharges. 

  • Provide education to internal teams about SUD criteria and referral process.  

  • Develop and implement protocols to ensure care documentation is reviewed and is individualized and clinically appropriate. 

  • Meet with Medical Director to review program development and adherence to treatment guidelines.  

  • Review MCO Buprenorphine Performance reports regularly and develop plans to address areas that do not meet performance expectations. 

  • Attend team meetings as needed and ensure a multi-disciplinary approach in conjunction with therapist/team lead. 

  • Facilitate Quality Improvement to enhance program quality and promote program growth. 

  • Ensure prompt responses regarding grievances/complaints. 

  • Attend community/payor meetings as the MHC representative as needed. 

  • Assist with TDMHSAS licensure and other complaints and ensure an appropriate outcome with documentation. 

  • Ensure timely and appropriate documentation as required by the organization 

  • Assist with any insurance/authorizations as needed for payors as needed. 

  • Analyzes daily workflow of clinical practice staff, working to optimize
