As a Thermal Design Engineering Intern, you will take a critical role in developing systems for VR, AR, Smart Glasses and Wearables, or New Technology Initiatives. You will be part of a team exploring and developing consumer electronics products over the full lifecycle, from prototypes to mass-production. You will work as part of a cross functional team requiring collaboration and curiosity in domains inside and outside thermal engineering.


Our ideal candidate has strong heat-transfer fundamentals, is familiar with CFD theory with some fluency in tools, experienced in developing thermal/analytical models from first-principles, and testing.


Our internships are twelve (12) to sixteen (16) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.Hardware Intern, Thermal Engineering (BS/Masters) Responsibilities
  • Develop physics-based thermal models using programming languages such as MatLAB, Python, or Julia.
  • Develop part and sub-system thermal models using CFD and CAD tools.
  • Develop and optimize thermal designs while integrating new thermal technologies through partnering with mechanical and electrical engineers.
  • Support sub-system and system-level thermal verification through prototype testing.
  • Support the development of thermal control systems while building prototypes to test on physical HW.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience in modeling using CAD and CFD tools.
  • Experience in running thermal tests using thermocouples.
  • Experience in some programming with a scripting language such as MatLab, Python, or Julia, to support development of models and automation tools.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a Masters or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience developing analytical, physics-based thermal models.
  • Familiar with control theory.
  • Experienced in developing physical prototypes of consumer-electronics devices.
  • Familiar with thermal materials, such as graphite spreaders, aerogels, thermal interface materials, heatpipes, vapor-chambers, and fans.
  • Intent to return to the degree program after the completion of the internship/co-op.
