We are looking for an experienced Marine Risk Engineer to be based in our Madrid office, who has expertise in all types of Marine risk: Cargo, Hull, Marine Liability, and Ports and Terminals.
Your Team
As part of the Allianz Commercial global Allianz Risk Consulting (ARC) team and reporting to the Regional Unit Ibero Manager of Risk Consulting, you will belong to a small international team of Marine Engineering experts who provide loss-control expertise, support and assistance to Allianz and its customers, to assist Allianz Marine Underwriting in risk selection and retention.
This position requires strong relationship skills to develop and maintain professional working relationships both outside Allianz among customers and brokers, but also internally with our underwriters, claims professionals and risk engineers.
Full fluency in Spanish and business English is key, but we are keen for applicants to have an additional language.
The Impact You Will Have
You will be responsible for reviewing and assessing submissions in the Marine market to support our underwriting products, with a particular focus on our growth areas of Marine Liability and Ports and Terminals.
You will co-ordinate and monitor the loss control activity and servicing of assigned accounts, undertake loss-control survey work, and provide risk consultancy on existing and prospective accounts. With your diplomatic and commercial people skills, you will develop and maintain excellent working relationships with Allianz Commercial Underwriting, Distribution and Claims teams, as well as with clients and brokers. Your passion for Marine risks across the board will lead you to constantly enhance your technical expertise, which you will share with your peers.
Some of your specific responsibilities could include
- Supporting the Underwriting team in assessing market submissions for new and existing business
- Completing desk top reviews and risk assessments (pre & post loss) for underwriting, evaluating and summarising exposures and controls, for Cargo, Hull, Ports and Terminal Surveys
- Working with underwriting, claims, the client and the broker, where appropriate, to develop customized loss-control programmes
- Writing and reviewing reports (eg. Loss-control reports and bulletins, recommendations) in a timely manner
- Surveying client operations, obtaining data, identifying hazards and discussing findings with appropriate parties
- Appointing 3rd parties to ensure adequate contracts and controls are in place, agreeing on budgets and monitoring quality and any issues
- Participating in regional and international projects to improve systems and processes, and to spread best practice regarding Marine risk among both internal and external stakeholders
What You’ll Bring to the Role
You are a Marine Risk Engineer with significant expertise in all types of Marine risk: Cargo, Hull, Marine Liability, and Ports and Terminals
- Holding a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate subject
- Experience in industry with responsibilities in operations, process design, engineering technical support or other related areas
- At ease with IT and other digital and data processing tools
- Good understanding of the specialty Insurance sector
- Fluent in English, enabling you to communicate both verbally and in writing in a professional context, with Spanish at native level
- Adaptable with excellent organisational and communication skills, at ease in a multinational context with a wide variety of stakeholders
- Perform well under pressure and able to meet challenging deadlines
- Excellent writing and presentation skills
- Knowledge of the Spanish market is advantageous, but not essential
