POSITION SUMMARY
The Illinois Department of Central Management Services (CMS) Division of Vehicles is seeking to hire a Passenger and Light-duty Automotive Mechanic. This position will perform skilled mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance of passenger and light-duty vehicles for the states fleet and other off-road machinery. POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Under direct supervision of the Suburban North Automotive Shop Supervisor, serves as an in-house mechanic.

Inspects and performs major repair such as disassemble and repair engines, reassemble engines, differentials, air and hydraulic brakes, wheel ends, etc. and maintenance to various systems such as diesel, gasoline, multifuel engines, automatic and standard transmissions, heavy duty drive line systems, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical utility systems and other components requiring service.

Operates diagnostic electronic testing equipment such as ProDemand, Bendix, Cummings Insite, Allison, Navistor NED/DLB, etc. to discover mechanical problems and to service vehicles equipped with complex electronic ignition and pollution control systems.

Completes and submits to supervisor, shop records such as mechanic time tickets identifying parts used and labor hours for each repair/maintenance procedure performed.

Performs basic upkeep and maintenance duties for the work area.

Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of high school or coursework in automotive mechanics or completion of an approved training course.
- Requires experience necessary to qualify as a skilled mechanic.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prefers working knowledge in the repair of both diesel and gasoline engines.
- Prefers working knowledge of locating and adjusting mechanical feedbacks in motors and equipment and making necessary repairs.
- Prefers working knowledge of standard vehicle repair and maintenance practices and techniques, occupational hazards, and applicable safety measures.
