About the role
The Assembly Shop Manager oversees successful assembly and testing of reciprocating compressors at Burckhardt Compression's facility in Waller, TX. The position will supervise teams of assembly technicians and millwrights to drive successful on-time delivery of compressors while maintaining Burckhardt's strict quality requirements.
Leadership:
- Ensure organization of assembly and testing in accordance with the respective technical requirements, procedures, specification and standards for Burckhardt compressors.
- Daily supervision of Assembly Technicians, Millwrights and other shop personnel including supervision of shift teams.
- Manages workload of shop personnel, signs timesheets and minimizes cost overruns. Determines needs for over-time and load up to additional shifts as needed.
- Organizes compressor workstations, ensures adequate stocking and inventory, consumables, packing materials, tooling and supplies for the facility.
- Serves as the Subject Matter Expert on Burckhardt Compression equipment and provides on the job training for assembly technicians and millwrights to ensure continuity of assembly knowhow.
- Keeps the CEM management informed of any deficiency, potential deficiency or non-compliance with company policy or procedure within or outside the area of responsibility.
- To understand and ensure customer terms and conditions, and ensure delivery requirements, deadlines, targets and/or milestones are met.
- To ensure documents, proposals, commercial files, databanks, approved vendor lists, department files, project documents and electronic files are properly organized, adequately stored and up-to-date.
- Successfully supervises mechanical run tests of Burckhardt Compression equipment and ensures Factory Acceptance Testing completion.
Quality:
- Identifies and appropriately escalates non-conformances to CEM Manager.
- Tracks time and resources expended in corrective actions for NCR with cost capture.
- Documents NCRs by working with QA team and ensuring proper entry per Burckhardt's NCR process.
- Organization and execution of corrective actions based on non-conformance process. Develop technical repairs/resolutions to NCRs. Work with external vendors (if needed) to resolve NCRs.
- To understand and follow ISO 9001, Internal Control Systems (ICS), accounting procedures, and workflow processes, and to make suggestions for improvement. To support in successfully passing routine ISO audits
- Maintains "Stop Work" authority in the facility and champions Burckhardt's safety policies and procedures.
Safety:
- To ensure all safety requirements according to OSHA regulations and Burckhardt's safety manual are met and to strictly enforce a “0” tolerance policy.

- Reviews and supervises all major lifts in the facility.
- Ensures worker safety through means of tool talks, safety moments and workshop trainings.
- To perform other required duties as directed by supervisor in supporting or handling daily operations of the business.
- Works with Quality team to ensure calibration of all tools and instruments used in the shop and maintains current/accurate logs of shop assets.
Customer Service:
- Interface with Burckhardt's customers during important witness and hold points for assembly & testing.
- Explains Burckhardt's advantages and shares expert knowledge with internal/external customers
- Participates in pre-inspection meetings to provide overview of assembly process.
- Coordinates with Quality on witness or hold points during assembly & testing.
Shop Management:
- Ensures adequate maintenance of shop tools and assets.
- Manages procurement activities to fulfill shop commodity items such as tools and supplies.
- Ensures work cells are adequately tooled and consistently reviewed for cleanliness and safety.
REQUIREMENTS
- Fully trained on Burckhardt Assembly procedures.
- Fully trained on operating all shop equipment such as forklifts, overhead cranes, test stand etc.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in field service working on reciprocating equipment such as Burckhardt, Ariel, Cooper Bessemer, NEA, Dresser Rand.
- Experience leading service crews for overhauls, repairs and commissioning of equipment.
- Burckhardt Laby compressor experience is a requirement.
- Burckhardt PL2 compressor experience is a requirement.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screen
- Leadership capabilities, decision maker, team player, good customer service skills, mechanical aptitude, and a self-starter
