A Brief Overview

Are you a seasoned laboratory professional ready to build something exceptional? We're seeking a Clinical Laboratory Manager to serve as the operational leader and strategic partner in launching a new Hematologic Malignancy Laboratory within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Working within a tripartite leadership structure alongside a Medical Director and Laboratory Director, you'll be the operational engine that transforms vision into daily excellence. You'll establish workflows, build a culture of quality and collaboration, and serve as the critical bridge between laboratory operations and clinical care—ensuring our services meet the complex diagnostic needs of pediatric oncology, bone marrow transplant, and clinical trial programs.

You'll own the day-to-day: Set professional and quality standards for high-complexity testing including bone marrow morphology and flow cytometry. Oversee operations that deliver accurate, timely, and clinically meaningful results for children with hematologic malignancies. Ensure flawless execution across method validation, regulatory compliance, proficiency testing, and quality assurance. Manage operational and capital budgets. Lead, mentor, and develop a highly skilled technical team.

You'll be a strategic collaborator: Partner proactively with bone marrow transplant team, oncology, clinical trials coordinators, and physicians to anticipate needs and optimize service delivery. Serve as the laboratory's operational liaison to clinical stakeholders—translating complex diagnostic capabilities into accessible, actionable information. Work closely with your director partners to evaluate new methods, pilot innovations, and scale the lab's capabilities as institutional needs evolve.

You'll shape the future: Champion continuous improvement. Identify bottlenecks and implement solutions. Create systems that balance scientific rigor, operational efficiency, and staff sustainability. Represent the laboratory to internal and external partners. Build a team culture rooted in excellence, problem-solving, and patient-centered impact.

The Manager provides technical, operational and financial leadership for their assigned laboratory section. They set the professional standard by which the section operates. The Manager establishes the working environment in conjunction with established hospital and departmental policies and strictly adheres to and enforces those policies. The Manager partners with section Director(s) to ensure alignment in direction and goal setting for section operations.
