About the role

  • Previous optical/ophthalmic experience a plus, but not required, experience in healthcare or physician’s office a plus
  • Hours: 8:00am- 4:30pm
  • No weekends/No holidays
  • What are some daily key tasks required by this position:  Patient work ups, including history, previous health information, vision checks, diagnostic imaging, basic charting, and some phone calls to answer patient questions.

Responsible for ophthalmic, diagnostic procedures and ophthalmic/medical assistance in support of the clinical activities of the department. Performs preliminary ophthalmic examinations. Explains testing procedures to patients. Assists providers with post-op surgery patients. Maintains diagnostic equipment. Cleans all equipment in exam rooms consistent with current infection control policies. Will stock exam rooms and work areas, while checking for expired supplies. May assist in minor OR procedures and ocular injections. May provide back-up support for other departments as needed.

  • High School Diploma/GED. 0-3 Years of Experience.
  • Basic Life Support certification required within 30 days of employment, through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be preferred per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
  • Requires knowledge of infection control principles.
  • Requires ability to effectively prioritize multiple patient care needs.
  • Experience with basic ophthalmic workup and testing preferred.
  • Prefer knowledge of exam room environment.
