Job Description

The Department of Communication Studies, Law, and Political Science is looking to hire a 9-month, tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor or a non-tenure track position at the rank of Instructor for the Communication Studies Program. The position’s tenure track or non-tenure track status will be determined based on applicant pool and individual qualifications. Specifically, the Department is seeking a candidate to teach in the area of Organizational Communication, including some combination of the following courses: Introduction to Organizational Communication, Small Group Communication, Coaching and Mentoring, Developing Human Resources through Communication, Organizational Culture and Climate, Recruiting and Interviewing, and other courses in the applicant’s particular area of interest. This is an on-campus position located on the Fort Hays State University campus in Hays, KS, but interest, experience and ability to teach online is expected as needed.  

Minimum Qualifications: A master’s degree from an accredited institution in Communication, Mass Communication, Organizational Communication, or a closely related field is expected. For the tenure-track position, ABD will be considered with a projected completion date prior to the start of the fall 2025 semester. 

Preferred Qualifications: A terminal degree from an accredited institution in Communication, Mass Communication, Organizational Communication, or a closely related field. Two or more years of recent college level teaching experience and an active record of scholarship and service is preferred.

Rank: Assistant Professor or Instructor

Appointment Date: August 2025

Salary: The best current, good faith estimate of the salary for the position as a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor is $61,671 and for a Non-Tenure Track Instructor is $51,034, which is based on data from the College and University Professional Association (CUPA). These amounts are subject to change.

Responsibilities:
This faculty position requires a commitment to quality teaching, scholarship and service: 60% teaching, 20% scholarship/research, and 20% service. The teaching load is a 4/4 load, including both on-campus and online instruction.  The ideal applicant will be able to provide instruction for graduate and undergraduate-level coursework, including introductory, general education, and upper-division courses. Duties also include mentoring students, engagement in scholarly activities, and providing service to the community, the profession, the department, the college, and the university.

About the Program:
The Communication Studies Program is housed in the Department of Communication Studies, Law, and Political Science.
