Position Overview

The primary responsibility of the Director - Server Development is to manage a team of senior and non-senior developers in the development of a server stack and underlying database. This position is a foundational part of a rapidly growing team and plays a key role in the end-to-end product development process. This director level position will manage the server engineering team of senior to junior level engineers.

All duties are to be performed in accordance with Company and departmental policies, practices, and procedures. All Company Team Members are expected to conduct and carry themselves in a professional manner at all times. Team Members are required to observe the Company’s standards, work requirements and rules of conduct.   

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily workflow and schedules of the team, including managing remote workers.

  • Manage the team of senior to junior level engineers, including hiring, organizing work and adherence to policies, and monitoring and evaluating performance.

  • Interface with product team, design team, and architect team to clarify work.

  • Evaluate the size of work and manage to an Agile sprint rhythm.

  • Provide reasonable estimates for project timelines from design until delivery.

  • Code review work product of team members.

  • Mentor and set goals for team members.

  • Interview and staff new members of the server team.

  • Train team members to ensure that coding standards are met and conduct performance evaluations.

  • Code in golang and sql databases. Although primarily a lead position, it is expected that some time is spent coding.

  • Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

  • Design, Develop, and Implement Secure Software Solutions: Build software applications with a focus on security from the ground up. Use best practices in encryption, access control, identity management, and other security requirements to design and implement robust applications.

  • Security Risk Analysis: Identify potential risks and vulnerabilities in the software through methods such as threat modeling, code reviews, and other risk assessment techniques. Propose and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks.

  • Maintain Security Compliance: Understand and adhere to regulatory security requirements and industry standards such as ISO 27001, GDPR, or PCI-DSS. Ensure that the company's software products are in full compliance.

  • Incident Response: Work with the cybersecurity team to respond to security incidents effectively and efficiently. This could include performing root cause analysis, remediation, and contributing to process improvements that prevent future incidents.

  • Security Training and Advocacy: Promote security awareness across the team and organization. Contribute to the training of staff on secure coding practices and the latest cybersecurity threats and trends.

  • Security Tooling and Automation: Implement and use security tools for automated code analysis, vulnerability detection, and intrusion detection. Regularly update and refine these tools based on the changing security landscape.

  • Secure DevOps (SecDevOps) Practices: Apply SecDevOps principles to ensure security throughout the development lifecycle. This could involve secure coding, continuous integration, continuous delivery, and automated security checks.

  • Cybersecurity Research: Keep up-to-date with the latest cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, mitigation measures, and industry trends. Apply this knowledge to continually improve the company's cybersecurity posture.

  • Perform job duties in a safe manner.

  • Attend work as scheduled on a consistent and regular basis.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 21 years of age.

  • Proof of authorization to work in the United States.

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience required.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain any certification or license, as required by law or policy. 

  • 7 to 10 years of experience in related role, preferably in the gaming or similar industry.

  • At least 3 years experience in a senior / leadership role managing a team of developers.

  • Demonstrated experience with microservice architecture, golang (or comparable language), and sql databases.

  • Strong soft skills, including attention to detail, problem-solving and communication skills.

  • Experience with certification is strongly preferred (ISO 9000 etc.).
