Making Mentors Program Assistant (Part-Time)

About the Center:
Making Mentors is a school-based initiative that partners with NYC Public Schools (NYCPS) to support college mentors working with neurodivergent students. The program emphasizes mentorship, inclusion, and collaboration to advance educational equity and support student success.

Position Summary

The Part-Time Program Assistant supports the day-to-day operations of the Making Mentors Program by providing on-site and administrative support to approximately 10 college mentors. This position exists to ensure smooth program coordination, effective communication across partners, and consistent operational support for mentors working in NYC Public Schools.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary liaison and coordinator for the NYU mentor team

  • Manage payroll processes in collaboration with HR and resolve payroll-related issues

  • Monitor NYU program spending and budget activity in collaboration with the Co-Principal Investigator

  • Attend and support weekly mentor meetings, including leading administrative breakout discussions and occasionally facilitating full-group sessions

  • Coordinate logistics and accommodations with the Metro Center team for conferences, trainings, and special events

  • Organize mentoring training logistics, including securing space, food, and necessary supplies

  • Maintain shared documentation, meeting notes, and action items in collaboration with project partners

  • Use collaborative tools to manage project workflows and document program progress

  • Maintain project trackers, mentor rosters, and shared documentation using Google Drive and/or project management tools

Work Arrangement

This is a hybrid position, requiring two days per week on-site at NYC Public Schools, with remaining hours completed remotely.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position includes on-site visits to NYC Public Schools with college mentors and provides supervisory support to mentors during program activities.

Evaluation & Supervision

The Program Assistant will meet with the supervisor on a weekly basis for evaluation and assessment.

NYC Pay Transparency Act Statement (Part-Time)

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly pay range for this position is $28.25–$30.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational, administrative, and project coordination skills

  • High attention to detail, flexibility, punctuality, and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

  • Demonstrated appreciation for neurodiversity and interest in working alongside neurodivergent individuals

  • Experience with Excel and/or Google Sheets, including data cleaning and basic coding

  • Comfort creating simple data visualizations or summaries for reports

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across a multi-site team

  • Familiarity with NYCPS systems (e.g., fingerprinting, onboarding) is a plus
