Job Description
Job Summary
Western Digital is in search of a Materials Manager for our Great Oaks wafer manufacturing site in San Jose, CA.
This Monday through Friday leadership position manages the planners and stockroom personnel supporting Thin-Film Wafer Manufacturing, which operates 24/7. The Materials & Spares Team collaborates with Maintenance, Equipment Engineering, Process Engineering, Facilities, Operations, Procurement, IT and other internal personnel to maintain adequate supply of manufacturing materials and maintenance spares. In addition, the Materials Manager will work closely with the Wafer Finance Team to create spending forecasts, drive spending reduction projects, and ensure that KPI's are met.
Duties and Responsibilities:
As a Wafer Materials Manager, you will provide leadership, direction, coaching and development to a department of 12-15 direct reports.
Your team will be responsible for:
- Utilizing Oracle Cloud to plan, order, stock and distribute various materials and maintenance spares.
- Planning and ordering all parts, chemicals and materials required in the production of thin-film wafers.
- Stocking & receiving all service and repair supplies necessary for maintaining the tools on the production line.
- Distributing and tracking supplies to maintain adequate inventory, min/max quantities, and accurate cycle counts.
- Reporting on metrics such as Out of Stock, Min/Max Quantities, Zero Inventory and annual Physical Inventory.
- Communicating with Maintenance, Manufacturing, and Engineering to stay current on priorities and planning ahead for scheduled preventive maintenance to minimize downtime.
- Seeking information from Facilities, Equipment and Process Engineering to understand changes in the pipeline that require new items or more/less of current supply.
- Working closely with Engineering Teams to provide non-stock items to support development.
- Forecasting the Materials and Spare Parts spending for the Great Oaks Wafer Fab and working closely with the Finance and Support Team to ensure all spending commitments are met.
- Coordinating cost savings activities with Procurement such as 2nd source or quantity discounts.
- Developing good working relationships with suppliers who must deliver on time with occasionally urgent requests.
- Collaborating with Fremont Wafer Fab counterpart to develop consistent best practices between sites and contribute to continuous improvement efforts within a company that believes in Lean Manufacturing.
Qualifications
This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering or Finance. Industrial Engineering background is preferred. Special consideration may be given to candidates with advanced technical training and/or an Associate’s Degree in a related field with a significant level of personnel management.
Prior leadership experience while working in a high-volume, fast-paced computer component manufacturing organization is beneficial. Candidate must have proven ability to perform in an environment where meeting production builds and maximizing equipment uptime is critical.
Required:
- 5+ years of experience leading/managing people in a technical role.
- Experience managing personnel in a stockroom or warehouse.
